Bobby Chism
September 20: Police verify they are looking for Chism and issue an arrest warrant on the charge of three counts of aggravated robbery.
October 8: Memphis Police officers respond to a 5:20 p.m. shooting at a Memphis Area Transit Authority bus shelter at 1211 Union Avenue, outside Methodist University Hospital. Witnesses explain that two men — one inside a silver car at a traffic light — argue at the bus stop, then one man pulls a gun, fires and flees in the Honda Pilot. Thomas Bonner is killed.
A press release accompanied by a photo of the gunman and the car is released to the press and the public. Police believe the man in the photo — Bobby Chism — is the same man wanted for the September food truck robbery.
October 11, 2022: A tipster calls CrimeStoppers. The caller identifies the location of Chism’s hideout. He soon is arrested on first degree murder and two weapon charges. Bond is set at $390,000.
The list of crimes on Chism’s record is longer than his proverbial arm:
Aggravated animal cruelty; animal fighting; theft of property; aggravated burglary; aggravated assault; aggravated robbery; criminal attempted first degree murder; employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony; convicted felon in possession of a handgun; possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony; possession of a controlled substance with the intent to manufacture, deliver or sell; criminal attempt unlawful possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.
Thanks to our successful tipsters, who were paid $2,000 and $900 respectively, a dangerous felon has lost his freedom and been removed from society.
