GREETINGS FROM SPARTAN LANE
This is an historic week in our country, as we celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday and the inauguration of Joe Biden as our 46th President of the United States yesterday. These are difficult times, and I choose to be an optimist and see hope in our future days. Hope that we can heal and bring our communities together, hope that we can better manage the pandemic and dramatically slow the loss of life, hope that we can unify our country, hope that our economy will take a turn for the better and Americans can get back to work in earnest, hope that the anxiety many are suffering will be eased and people can enjoy the sunrise and the opportunities that lie ahead.

In our own community we have seen an increase in COVID cases since last Thursday’s message, especially among our adults. At this point, we have an entire class in the Preschool and one of our varsity sports teams under quarantine. These are not easy decisions, but it is for the greater good as we do our best to keep people healthy and safe. Our COVID task force checks in every week about our school situation and the reality of group quarantines. Since the last eSpartan we have added six confirmed cases: three Upper School students, two faculty (one Upper School and one Preschool), and one administrator.  We also have a number of parents in the community with positive tests, so please be vigilant and let’s do our part to keep our community healthy.

Today’s date is a palindrome (1/21/21), which some suggest is a time to seek gratitude and appreciate all that is around us. It’s a good day to announce that we will be taking Monday, February 1, as a mental health day for the community (no school). I realize this is at the end of many quarantines, but we want to give our teachers a day to catch their collective breath and take care of themselves.  Read more.
"The simple fact that a test that often inspires anxiety among students (and parents) can be taken in familiar surroundings, among familiar test-takers and proctors, can result in a measurable advantage."
By Pat Cuneo, Director of Academic Affairs
Don't miss the Senior Exit Show (on display in the Myers Gallery through May 14) and the Middle School play (February 5-7)!

"Without fail, expect the coldest, dampest, windiest weather of the year once we begin playing spring sport contests--happens every year, so I anticipate the same again this spring!"

The premiere screening will be held on campus on Friday, February 5, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Space is limited for this video debut so please email Tyler Dale to reserve your spot (please note that first priority will be given to the families of the performers). ADMISSION SEASON 2021-22
We're gearing up for another busy admission season at Athens Academy, with the Preschool application process currently well underway. If you know any prospective Athens Academy families, please feel free to share this eSpartan and especially this new campus video created by alumnus John Chester '20. Our current families are often our best references--thank you! For more information on the admission process, please contact Geoffrey Walton or Mary Catherine Jernigan. Go Spartans!
THANK YOU, SPARTANS!
Together we have been approved for nearly $1 million in state tax credits for 2021...redirecting funds that would normally go to the state in taxes to Athens Academy instead.

GREAT NEWS--IT'S NOT TOO LATE!
If you did not pre-register for the 2021, there are still funds available! The program did not "sell out," so Apogee will continue to take applications until all the funds are depleted.

To apply now, please click here or contact Greta Covington for more information.
Athens Academy has participated in the Georgia Tuition Tax Credit Program since 2010, raising more than $5 million for our financial aid program. We hope you will join the hundreds of Spartan families who participate annually in this successful program.
