Country Bank announces its “Season of Difference” campaign with $125,000
in support for local communities

November 22, 2022 - The winter holidays are going to be a lot brighter for a lot of people, thanks to Country Bank’s annual Season of Difference campaign, during which the bank has pledged 28 days of making a difference in the communities they serve.

The bank’s team members (aka, Difference Makers) will deliver $80,000 in donations to local food pantries, as well as $5,000 each to the Friends of the Homeless, Salvation Army and the USO.

The campaign kick-off is on Saturday, November 26—Small Business Saturday—with Difference Makers purchasing gifts cards from local businesses and distributing them throughout their banking centers on Tuesday, November 29.

In addition, the bank’s team members will be supporting holiday sponsorships and events, volunteering at nonprofits, providing gifts for 300 seniors in nursing homes, 400 gifts for children, and 300 gifts to homeless shelters, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, and more.

"As a community partner, we care deeply about our communities, and we want to make a meaningful difference where it is most needed this holiday season,” said Paul Scully, President, and CEO of Country Bank. “As we reflect on the past year with gratitude for the bank's strength and ability to support so many in need, we are also humbled to witness so many great acts of kindness and support throughout our communities from the people and businesses who make this region the remarkable place it is to live and work.”

To find out what the bank is doing each day of the campaign, follow the bank’s social channels or visit www.countrybank.com/seasonofdifference.

Second Chance Marks One Year Anniversary of Southbridge Vet Hospital
Southbridge Community Veterinary Hospital Now Offering Surgery and Grooming
SOUTHBRIDGE, MA (November 22, 2022) – This month Second Chance Animal Services’ Southbridge Community Veterinary Hospital is marking their first anniversary of helping pets in the Southbridge area by expanding services to help more pets.  The Southbridge vet hospital is now scheduling dental and other surgeries including limited spay and neuter. It is also the first Second Chance location to offer grooming.

Chief Development Officer Lindsay Doray says the Southbridge hospital has had a very busy first year and is now caring for about 500 pets every month. “We chose this location because there was a very great need in the area, especially for those facing transportation challenges. Now we can offer surgery, including dental services, so pets can receive these services close to home.”

“We are also excited to begin offering grooming services at our Southbridge,” adds Doray. “For years, pet owners have been asking for grooming services. We are starting with dog grooming one day a week and hope to add more days and services for cats soon. It’s a great learning opportunity for the students at the hospital.” The location serves as an educational hospital in partnership with Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School. Veterinary Science students get real-life experience working alongside dedicated, trained staff, learning about working in the veterinary field. They see what it’s like to be a receptionist, a vet assistant, a groomer and more. They graduate with a certificate in veterinary assistance and can go directly into the workforce or pursue a veterinary technician or veterinarian degree.

“The hospital provides year-round access to care for pets and helps educate the future of animal welfare,” says Founder and CEO Sheryl Blancato. “This is truly a one-of-a-kind opportunity to impact change for pets in Massachusetts and beyond.”

Second Chance has additional Community Veterinary Hospitals located in North Brookfield, Springfield, and Worcester. Each location is open to all pet owners and offers subsidized rates for those that qualify. Pet owners who pay the full rate are helping to provide the many programs that help over 40,000 pets a year.

Pet owners interested in scheduling an appointment for their pet can call 774-318-1101. For more information on all Second Chance Community Veterinary Hospitals, visit: www.secondchanceanimals.org/vetcare/.

Patrick Subaru Shares the Love with Second Chance
Annual Sales Event Supports Hometown Charities

EAST BROOKFIELD, MA (November 28, 2022) – In a year marked by a record need for all their programs, Second Chance Animal Services is thrilled to be included in the Share the Love Event at Patrick Subaru of Shrewsbury. The annual Subaru Share the Love Event is a sales and service event that helps promote the spirit of giving with customers choosing which charities to support. Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new Subaru leased or purchased, and on top of that Patrick Subaru is donating $75 per new vehicle for a total of $325 per vehicle this year. Additionally, Patrick Subaru donates $5 per regular routine Subaru vehicle service.

With Share the Love, the customer gets to decide how they want their donations to be made – they can choose to donate the entire amount to one organization, or they can divide it any amount of ways. Second Chance was chosen as one of this year’s hometown charities in addition to Why Me & Sherry’s House. Customers can also choose to support the ASPCA, National Parks Foundation, Meals on Wheels, and Make-A-Wish – for a total of six organizations to choose from.

“We’re so grateful to be included in Share the Love alongside five other very worthy charities,” said Second Chance Chief Development Officer Lindsay Doray. “We’ve already helped a record number of pets this year and we expect the need to continue into 2023.  In addition to all the pets we’ve taken in and helped find homes, our Community Veterinary Hospitals which help to keep pets out of shelters have also been busier than ever. Our pet food pantry program is distributing more pet food to more human food pantries than ever before. We have helped grateful owners with nowhere else to turn who never dreamed they would need financial help to care for their pet.”

"Second Chance Animal Services is truly making a difference in what they do every single day—rain or shine,” said Patrick Motor Group Marketing Director Michelle Bourget. “Patrick Subaru is honored to be able to work alongside them in their mission to provide access to pet care and adoption services to those who need it. SCAS continues to go above and beyond with their services in ways that this area needs. We are lucky to have them in our community, and lucky to have them as one of our Share the Love Event Hometown Charities for the 2022 event. We are hoping for another successful Share the Love so that we can help them in their mission."

This is the 15th year of Subaru’s Share the Love event. Share the Love continues through January 3, 2023.  For more information, visit www.patricksubaru.com or visit the dealership located at 247 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA.

Over the past twenty-four years, the Festival of {Giving} Trees has raised and donated over $796,000 to these beneficiaries.

The Festival of {Giving} Trees features more than 100 uniquely decorated trees on display under one roof.

Some are elegant, nostalgic and breathtaking. Some are humorous, some are traditional and some are really hip. The only thing they have in common is that they are all different and they are all sparkling!

And each and every one of them will be taken home by lucky raffle winners. Come join us! It is a community-wide event, so bring your family, friends and neighbors.

The “Feast of the Seven Fishes” popularity in America can be traced back to when Italian-American families rekindled the Old Country's Christmas Eve tradition by preparing a seven-course seafood meal that made them feel close to their homes, while celebrating the sea, a major connection in Italy. Today, it's considered one of the oldest Italian-American holiday traditions.

Chef Rico will be preparing many of the dishes that make this special dinner a perennial favorite but will also be adding a few new twists to keep it interesting and fresh. Our traditional December “Feast of the Seven Fishes” banquet will be held on just one night this year: Wednesday, December 14.

This popular event is always a sell-out so please call 508-347-2321 to make your reservations.
The cost per person on this extravagant feast is $69 and does not include tax, gratuity, or wine pairings.
United Way's 2022 Campaign officially began on 10/21!

We can’t wait to share with you the status of the campaign come mid-December! The event is sponsored by Webster First Federal Credit Union and the guest speaker is Jim Donahue, President/CEO of Old Sturbridge Village. Jim will share how the United Way supported Learning Through Experience Program at OSV is going, as well as the after-school enrichment and sports program that is supported by an ASOST-R UWSCM/DESE grant. He’ll also have information on exciting happenings at Old Sturbridge Academy Charter School and programs within the Village.

Donations are being requested for our agency partner, NEW HOPE. Please bring gift cards, unwrapped toys, children and women’s pajamas and cozy blankets for their family shelters that provide a safe place for those experiencing domestic violence.
