Dear River Forest residents,
I am honored to be speaking tonight at the Oak Park River Forest Museum Gala, where I will have the privilege of presenting longtime River Forest resident and volunteer, Carlotta Lucchesi, with the “Heart of our Villages” Award. Carlotta is a shining example of an individual who has been selfless in her devotion to our community. Her decades of giving back include serving on the Board of Directors for the Oak-Park River Forest League of Women Voters, as well as holding leadership roles on the Board for the River Forest Community Center, and on the boards of education for District 90 and Oak Park River Forest High School. In addition, Carlotta is a longtime Board member of the Oak Park-River Forest Historical Society and was the first female member of the River Forest Service Club. She is a member of the DePaul University School of Music, Dean's Advisory Board Volunteer at Ten Thousand Villages, and serves on the Dominican University President’s Advisory Council.
As you can see, Carlotta has left her mark on this community and we thank her for her many contributions.
Please also see information in this e-newsletter about Isabel Roberts, a trailblazing woman who also impacted our community and the world of architecture, along with an upcoming Festival of Colors, a bike exchange event, a Dominican University event, and information about handyman services available to our residents ages 60 and over.
Happy spring!
Sincerely,
|

Isabel Roberts was a woman ahead of her time who had many significant accomplishments as a trained architect, and was known as Frank Lloyd Wright’s first employee and “right-hand woman” for more than a decade. As a trailblazer in her field, Isabel played an instrumental role in managing Wright’s Oak Park studio, and was also a talented glass designer and draftswoman. When her family commissioned a home to be designed by Wright in River Forest, Isabel became both a client and collaborator for the design of Isabel Roberts House which still stands in River Forest and is nationally recognized for its architecture. While her professional successes were minimized during most of her career, she is now recognized as one of the individuals who helped create techniques and design styles that ultimately became known as the Prairie School of Architecture.
More information about Isabel’s impressive career can be found here.
