July Veteran of the Month - Wayne White

Wayne White served in the U.S. Air Force from 1986 to 1992 and eventually found his way to the Charlotte area. When Wayne saw the news that someone had vandalized a WWII Monument in Evergreen Cemetery with red and yellow spray paint he decided to do something about it. Wayne called friend Krystal Ireland and her daughter Zoe and planned to take the day off of work to clean the monument Monday, June 22. Arriving at 7:30am, the three started cleaning the graffiti from the memorial by hand. After more than five hours of scrubbing and pressure washing, the stone gleamed like new again.
We asked Wayne if he had any pictures of the cleaning crew, and he said that it wasn’t about that. He said that the 5,130 names on that wall were men who died serving their country and they deserved better. We couldn’t agree more.
Wayne is a great example of a Veteran who continues to serve his community. He saw that something needed done, and he did it.
