Pre-K CLASS Observation Training Sept. 9-10

Mark your calendars for a two-day Pre-K CLASS Observation Training event Sept. 9-10.

The event will be at the Prem S. Paul Research Center at Whittier School, Room 136, at 2200 Vine St. in Lincoln.

Participants will learn how development affects classroom interactions and the link between effective teacher-child interactions as it relates to learning.

Training includes an overview of the CLASS measure and its uses, and will prepare you to assess teaching quality based on the CLASS system.

Registration fee is $275 plus shipping of CLASS materials. Please register by Wednesday, Aug. 18.

IES Invites Applications for Education/Special Education Research Grant Program Awards

The U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES) has issued a notice inviting applications for new awards for fiscal year 2022 for the Education Research and Special Education Research Grant Programs.

New! Advanced Education Research and Development Fund

The Leveraging Education Advanced Research Now (LEARN) program aims to advance research projects that reflect state-of-the-art practices or tools that support the assessment of the social, emotional and educational needs of culturally diverse populations.

Proposals are encouraged that reflect the priority populations of Black and Latinx learners and projects that include outcomes that will benefit Latinx or Black learners and their educators.

Letter of intent due date: Sept. 1, 2021

New! 2021 Victoria S. Levin Award for Early Success in Young Children’s Mental Health Research

SRCD is now accepting applications for the Victoria S. Levin Award for Early Success in Young Children’s Mental Health Research. The award aims to foster early career success in achieving federal funding for research informed by developmental science that addresses concerns affecting the foundations of children’s mental health.

The award provides up to $25,000 to pre-tenured, early to mid-career investigators.

Proposal due date: Oct. 1, 2021

IES Education/Special Education Research Grant Program

The U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES) has issued a notice inviting applications for new awards for fiscal year 2022 for the Education Research and Special Education Research Grant Programs.

Proposal due dates range from Aug. 12 to Sept. 9, 2021.

National Science Foundation Discovery Research PreK-12

The Discovery Research PreK-12 program seeks to significantly enhance the learning and teaching of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and computer science (STEM) by PreK-12 students and teachers, through research and development of STEM education innovations and approaches.

Proposal due date: Oct. 6, 2021

National Science Foundation Development Sciences Program

The Developmental Sciences Program supports basic research that increases our understanding of cognitive, linguistic, social, cultural and biological processes related to human development across the lifespan.

Research supported by this program will add to our knowledge of the underlying developmental processes that support social, cognitive and behavioral functioning, thereby illuminating ways for individuals to live productive lives as members of society.

Expected award budget: $100,000 – $200,000

Proposal due date: Jan. 17, 2022

This special topic meeting will foster interdisciplinary conversations to explore how children learn through playing, hearing stories and engaging in imaginative activities of all kinds. Participants will expand perspectives on learning through play and imagination, identify gaps in the literature and propose evidence-based strategies for how play and imagination can best be used in early education.

2022 CYFS Summit on Research in Early Childhood

The 2022 CYFS Summit on Research in Early Childhood aims to:

• Communicate cutting-edge early childhood findings from NU-affiliated researchers and colleagues.

• Advance the science of early childhood education and development via connections among community partners, key stakeholders, policymakers, early childhood practitioners and researchers.

National Research Conference on Early Childhood 2022

This three-day event presents the latest research about Head Start, Early Head Start, child care, home visiting, child welfare, special education, pre-kindergarten, early elementary and other early childhood programs.

The conference aims to strengthen programs serving young children, inform those establishing national policies for low-income families, and contribute to a meaningful research agenda in the early childhood field.
