Training for health care workers

Getnet Yimer, MD, eastern Africa regional director, conducted a face-to-face training for front-line healthcare workers at the leading COVID-19 treatment center in Ethiopia, the Millennium COVID-19 Treatment and Care Center. His lecture focused on biomedical research ethics, good clinical practice and responsibilities of different stakeholders when conducting clinical research with real life practical examples from Africa.

2020 Digital Global One Health Summer Institute recap

The Ohio State Global One Health Summer Institute, which has been hosted in-person in eastern Africa since 2012, was offered this year digitally due to COVID-19. Also different this year, was the addition of two major series of webinars and trainings. One of the series focused on internal medicine and was organized by Robert Baiocchi, MD, PhD, professor of medicine at The Ohio State University and physician at the Wexner Medical Center. The other series was the Equine Health Training Module jointly organized by Worldwide Veterinary Service and GOHi.

The Global One Health Conference 2020 will be held virtually November 5-7, 2020. Initiated in 2016 by the One Health Commission, the One Health Platform and the One Health Initiative Team, International One Health Day is officially celebrated around the world every year on November 3. Ohio State Wexner Medical Center is part of national COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center will be a site for a multicenter clinical trial testing an experimental COVID-19 vaccine in people. The vaccine was co-developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca, a biopharmaceutical company. The trial is currently on hold, but when it continues, it will enroll approximately 30,000 adult volunteers at 80 sites in the United States to evaluate how well the vaccine, called AZD1222, can protect people from COVID-19.
