A Message from Pastor Austin

His biceps are bulging and his girlfriend is swooning. There is no villain too bad, no strongman too strong, no building too big, and no wall too tall. What is his secret? Where does he get his strength? The clue is in his theme song.
Oh, I'm Popeye the Sailor Man,
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.
I'm strong to the finish
Cause I eats me spinach.
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.
Apart from his Spinach can, Popeye is flimsy, vulnerable, and weak. But when the sailor cracks the can and gulps the green stuff, something incredible happens. With incredible strength, he saves his girlfriend, Olive Oyl, or the little kids in danger. He never grows tired or weak or exhausted. He sings, “I’m strong to the finish, cause I eats me spinach.” His secret? Spinach.
Popeye the Sailorman knew his secret, and so does the Apostle Paul. Paul learned the, “secret of being content in any and every situation.” Paul proclaims that his strength is not his own, it comes from somewhere else and it’s not a can of spinach. In fact, his strength comes from someone else...his name is Jesus.
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:12-13
What about you? Not strong enough to deal with what you are going through today? Neither am I. Our strength comes from somewhere else and it’s not even a can of spinach. Our strength comes from someone else- his name is Jesus. He came for you and died for you on a cross. He then conquered death, sin, and the devil and will come again to take you to be with Him and that is a promise from Jesus.
When times are hard and you feel too tired, too weak, too beat down with the burdens of the day. Come to Jesus; he invites you. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
Our Lord not only gives us rest, he gives us strength. So today, if you are looking for a superpowered boost of strength for the day, or power for tomorrow, put the can of spinach down and open Philippians chapter four - you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Together, we rest content in Christ.

Prayer: Jesus, we thank and praise your glorious name, the name above all names. When we are yoked to You, there is no trial, no situation, no burden that is too heavy. In that Lord Jesus, we rest content.

LORD JESUS, HEAL OUR LAND, OUR BODIES AND OUR HEARTS
Please pray for . . .
- All those who died in the attacks of 9/11, nineteen years ago this morning. May God's peace beyond all understanding be with all the family members, loved ones and coworkers of those murdered. We thank those firefighters, police, military, and civilians who sacrificed themselves for others. We will never forget.
- Praise for baby Gideon, son of Barrett and Ashley. Thanks be to God!
- Thanksgiving and praise that Connie Kerr's pet scan went really well! No further growth and good results over all. No chemo this fall and she is so thankful. Thanks be to God!
- Andy Haffele as he recovers from serious ankle surgery. Prayers for quick healing and recovery.
- Kipp's sister, Karen who is suffering from the ravages of cancer and it's impact. Pray for peace for her and her entire family.
- The firefighters who have worked countless hours to fight the blazes in our area. Keep them safe and protected.
- Jack Swedlund and his wife Tanya, as Jack is in hospice care at home suffering from cancer.
- Strength, comfort and support for Carol who is home, and her daughter Pam.
- Bill and Virginia Hurd, who are at Castle Peak as permanent residents and unable to see family and friends in person. And for all the residents and staff of Castle Peak.
- Complete healing for Sal Marchetti as he continues to recover, and strength for the entire family who is faithfully taking care of him.
- Everyone in our congregation and their families who are dealing with the pains and trials of cancer, including Connie Kerr; Jack; Pastor Sid; Keith; Chris; Sharon Hlavinka; Brad Bluhm; Rance Ketterling; little Sal Marchetti; Amanda; Jonette; Carol; Jerry; and Suzanne.
- Everyone affected by illness, surgery or accidents - wisdom for doctors, peace of mind for patients and loved ones, and answers and best treatments revealed.
