"Perspective from the Past, Wisdom for the Present"
Too often we neglect the perspective the past can provide when we seek wisdom in the present. Today Christians are facing many bewildering questions, but this is not new to the church. In this next series we learn how former Christians faced cultural upheaval, pandemics, plagues, and racial prejudice. Come, listen, and learn from guest teachers so that we might gain wisdom for walking faithfully in the midst of today’s challenges! All recordings will be available on all our digital platforms beginning each
Sunday listed below at 9:30 am.

This Sunday, October 4, at 9:30 am is “Pandemics, Plagues, and Church History” with Dr. Peter Yoder, Lecturer in Historical Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary, Dallas.

October 9 & 11: “To Preach the Gospel and Fight Race Prejudice: Learning from the Life and Ministry of Francis J. Grimké (1850-1937)” – Dr. Drew Martin, Pastor at West Charlotte Church
This Week's Guest Sunday School Teacher
Dr. Peter Yoder

Fall 2017, Peter Yoder joined RTS Dallas to serve as Lecturer in Historical Theology and Director of Admissions. He is also currently a ruling elder at Christ the King Presbyterian Church in Desoto, Texas.

Before arriving in Dallas, Dr. Yoder was Visiting Assistant Professor of Christian Studies at Berry College and served at First Presbyterian Church in Rome, Georgia. He has had the privilege of holding research fellowships at the Leibniz Institute of European History (Mainz), the Gotha Research Centre of the University of Erfurt, and the Francke Foundations (Halle/Saale). He received his Master of Arts (Theological Studies) from RTS Charlotte and his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.

Peter is married to Mary, and they have two lovely daughters.
The Worlds of Lewis and Tolkien
Beginning Wednesday, October 7
For generations, the works of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien have inspired millions of people to use their imaginations in fresh and exciting ways. Each of these authors was committed to a Christian system of thought and sought to honor God with their writings. This class will explore the writings of these two authors—particularly The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings—and will examine the many ways that Christ and Christianity are represented and illumined.

Dr. Michael Kruger will teach “The Worlds of Lewis and Tolkien: Christian Imagery in Narnia and Middle Earth” on Wednesday nights from 7:15pm-8:30pm in the Community Life Center (CLC) beginning October 7 and every Wednesday night through November 18. To attend, please sign up at christcovenant.org/the-worlds-of-lewis-and-tolkien/.

Please note that each class will have the audio recorded and can be found at Dr. Kruger's blog, Canon Fodder.
Changes to Sunday Morning
Beginning October 11
Beginning Sunday, October 11, we will offer two morning worship service times at 9:00am and 10:45am in the worship center. Both morning worship services will have the option for child programming for ages 0-5. Morning worship will continue to be livestreamed during the 10:45am worship service on all our digital platforms.

The Community Life Center (CLC) will no longer be open for morning worship.

If you plan to attend either morning worship service in-person, we ask for you to continue to sign up for the service you will attend. Signups help us provide the safest environment possible for you and your family with social distancing measures in the worship center.

If you are a family that will utilize children's programs during morning worship, please sign up by Thursday to help our Children's Ministry team prepare for your children.

Signups for Sunday, October 11 will be made available at christcovenant.org beginning Sunday, October 4, at noon, or you can click on the boxes below to sign up for either morning service.

Ministry Highlight - This Sunday's Special Offering
Charlotte Rescue Mission
He rescued me from my strong enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. Psalm 18:17

This Sunday morning our deacons are asking all of us to share in the life-saving ministry of the Charlotte Rescue Mission. An established community ministry with a long record of life-changing ministry to men and women with nowhere else to turn, the Charlotte Rescue Mission now focuses on the challenge of rescuing the hopeless from the grip of addiction.

Their mission statement summarizes this work in just one sentence: Charlotte Rescue Mission is a leader in providing free Christian-based residential recovery programs that help people struggling with the disease of addiction achieve long-term sobriety, find employment and stable housing, and restore and build healthy relationships. The stories of how they help their residents find a way out of addiction to reclaim relationships with loved ones and rebuild their lives would take a book.

All the programs of the Mission are free to participants. This single fact, made possible because of the generosity of Christian supporters, eliminates the most significant barrier to help for both addicts and their families whose resources have been depleted by the high cost of addiction. Participants can concentrate on the challenge of recovery through a range of programs from residential treatment to job skills training.

Those programs include extended recovery residential programs such as Rebound and Dove’s Nest, beginning with 30 days of intensive ministry and extending a minimum of 120 days. These Christ-centered programs have a success rate that is twice the national average of standard programs. Rebound and Dove’s Nest graduates are eligible to move into job training programs which help them establish themselves in careers that help them support themselves and their dependents. The Dove’s Nest Education Program works with the children and families of addicts to help them recover from the damage caused by a parent’s addiction or destructive relationships. The Community Matters Café is a full-service restaurant and coffee shop offering participants a hands-on learning opportunity to build or rebuild work habits and job skills that are needed in every career field.

Our support of Charlotte Rescue Mission today will help families find help for a parent or sibling, or a child or a spouse whose life is at risk because of addiction. Your financial gifts, your volunteer involvement, and your prayers for this ministry will make a difference. To learn more visit www.charlotterescuemission.org.
