22 Apartments Completed Since May!
With the leadership of an anonymous donor, our May Matching Challenge Campaign was launched with a goal of raising $20,000 during National Foster Care Awareness Month. Despite our concern about the impact that the economic uncertainty might have on this critical fundraiser, our donors responded to the challenge, raising $24,100!
Referrals for assistance slowed during the height of the pandemic, but increased quickly following New York City's Phase 2 reopening. Twenty-two young adults submitted Wish Lists and received their desired "essential" household furnishings from May through July! This bring the total of all youth assisted during our current fiscal year to 64!
As might be expected, we are seeing our program costs increase and logistics becoming more complicated. The average price of furnishing an apartment has risen almost $100 since February. It currently costs $2,097 for all the necessary furnishings and furniture (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room) for an average apartment. We know that when we are collectively in a crisis, our supporters and volunteers continue to be there for the youth we serve!!
We could not be more grateful for your support, but we’re not done yet! Hearts to Homes has many more young adults to set up for success, and the May Challenge funds have now been fully utilized!
Aging out of foster care can be a scary process at any point in time, but during these challenging times anxiety levels can be especially high. When stay-at-home orders happen, few things are more important than one’s home. Our young adults are able to stay safe and be more comfortable, because you have helped them to create their perfect first home. Thank you for your generosity!
