All are welcome!
UUCSC does not presently have a minister. If you are in need of pastoral services please contact any member of the Pastoral Care Committee. Rev. Betty Kornitzer, UUCSC Minister Emerita, is working with the committee and if they feel professional ministerial support is needed, she will be called in.  Please do not contact the Minister directly.

"Discoveries and Spiritual Experiences
along the Camino de Santiago"
-- two perspectives, by John Kotula and Roseann Evans
The Camino de Santiago (The Way of St. James) was first established in the early ninth century, as a Christian pilgrimage to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in northwest Spain, where it was believed that relics of the apostle Saint James were enshrined. For the next six centuries, it was considered one of the three most important Christian pilgrimages, along with Jerusalem and Rome. From the 18th into the 20th century, however, the pilgrimages were not as frequent, but the Camino's popularity was revived in 1957 by the Spanish government and in the 1990s, it once again reached the popularity of the Middle Ages.

Each year, hundreds of thousands of people, including our two guests, walk one of three major Caminos that lead to Campostela, in Galicia, Spain. In the fall of 2019, both Roseann and John did the pilgrimage, she from Porto, Portugal, along the coast and he (with wife Deb Drew) from St. Jean-Pied-du-Port, France. Roseann was a professor of architecture at Roger Williams University; John was a school psychologist. In their retirement, they both have turned to their love of visual art, especially painting.

From President Elizabeth Donovan...
Dear Everyone,

The Board of Directors of UUCSC is committed to reopening our building for Sunday services on September 12th. That first service will be a Welcome Back and Water Communion organized by the Worship Committee. On September 19th UUCSC Minister Emerita Rev. Betty Kornitzer will address the congregation. More about September services coming soon.

The board has met twice this week and has a third meeting on Saturday morning. We have discussed how to provide worship services until we get a minister in place, likely a contract minister. Members of the Worship Committee and the board have many ideas and additionally will be turning to resources provided by the UUA.

We have also been discussing how to be safe in our building as the Covid Pandemic continues. We realize that flexibility on all our parts will have to be a key principle. Whatever guidelines we outline may have to change as conditions change. Expect a brief questionnaire in your email soon. Your answers to these questions will help us determine how to make everyone as comfortable and as safe as possible. Please reply asap.

Our Music Director, Michael Galib and our DRE, Lee Cowan, are enthusiastically onboard and will be providing music and religious education for our youth. Things will be different, no doubt. The choir (and the whole congregation) will be masked. But the important thing is that we will all be together. I, for one, can’t wait to see everyone again!

Next Work Party August 14
Many thanks for the amazing work done
by 20 UUCSC congregants at our work party on July 10!

A few of our accomplishments:
  • Deep cleaning and floor waxing of RE rooms.
  • Deep cleaning of all bathrooms,
  • Vacuuming, dusting, cleaning surfaces in minister/administrator offices and the Joan Patterson Library
  • Weeding and brush clearing in our back yard

We still have a number of tasks to accomplish before we begin to return to in person use of the building… cleaning surfaces, washing windows, dusting corners, and more! Vaccinations and masks are appreciated for everyone's safety.

Honoring Our Community
Sunday, August 8, 2021 * Noon - 1:00 PM
Join us at the Peace Dale Mural
1220 Kingstown Rd, Wakefield, RI

Members of UUCSC will recognize and honor the Native Americans who inhabited this land long before the colonists from across the ocean arrived here. We hold the mural by artist Deborah Spears Moorehead as a representation of this land's original occupants and realize that today we stand here as descendants of the colonists, Indigenous peoples and others who came through various ways, journeys, and methods. We thank you for your reminder of this history. We praise the artwork in this lively depiction of the past merged with today. May we all live in peace and harmony as we strive to achieve social justice amongst us. Blessed Be.

It is suggested to bring a folding chair to this event. Also looking for a videographer to record the oral remarks and presentations by our own President Elizabeth Donovan, Essjay Foulkrod, and Johnnie Rodriguez, and guest speakers from The Collective, the Tomaquag Museum, and the community.
