MoAT Receives a Grant from the

Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation

for Adaptive Gaming

The explosive growth of online gaming during the Covid-19 pandemic has shown that many have found this interaction as a means of much-needed connection during the swell of forced isolation. The online gaming environment provides the opportunity to engage and compete even when having to stay apart physically. For Missourians living with paralysis, this activity may not have been accessible.

That is, until now...

Through a year-long grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, Missouri Assistive Technology is working to eliminate the barriers of access by providing and supporting alternative access methods to video gaming to all Missourians living with paralysis. These methods include eye gaze, head tracking, mouth/chin control, bite switch control, and sip and puff control. All Missourians whose physical limitations hinder their ability to participate in online gaming activities will benefit from this project.

This project will impact participants by providing the following free services:

Comparison of a wide variety of gaming/computer access methods

Consultation on alternative input methods

Training on all appropriate devices

Loan of gaming equipment and alternative access devices

Assistance in finding funding for personal equipment for when the trial is completed

Monthly onsite gaming "open house"

Missouri Assistive Technology is providing the opportunity to individuals with access challenges to try, play, and borrow gaming equipment. This includes systems, alternative input methods, and games.

Individuals with access challenges, who struggle to operate a standard gaming controller, are welcome to come in and try the above systems as well as the XBox One and the Razer Blade Pro 15. Missouri Assistive Technology will provide consultation on adaptive gaming and alternative input methods. All of those that participate in the consultation will be welcomed to participate in monthly gaming open house events held at Missouri Assistive Technology and borrow equipment when available.

Take a Look at What's "Old" in Assistive Technology

Each week we will offer "recycled" devices free of charge. These are devices that we have retired from our lending library. We would like to offer these devices to individuals who can use them knowing that they are older technology and no longer supported by the manufacturer. Please contact Scout via email to request these devices. They will be shipped to you free of charge and will not need to be returned.
