Nurse's Corner
To begin a Healthy New Year, St. Joseph School will again be adopting the 9-5-2-1-0 plan. It is a plan to promote healthy lifestyles for our children. Our goal is to support our parents as they work to encourage healthy behaviors for their children

The mnemonic for 9-5-2-1-0 stands for:
9 Get at least 9 hours of sleep per day
5 Eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day
2 Limit screen time to no more than 2 hours per day
1 Get at least one hour of physical activity per day
0 Avoid beverages with added sugar

We will dedicate each month to a different component of the program. Starting in January, we will focus on getting 9 hours of sleep each night. Information will be sent via Bernie's Bark and by the grade teachers via the classroom email

Get at least 9 hours of sleep per night

According to the National Sleep Foundation, adolescents should get 9 to 11 hours of sleep and teens should get at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep per day, and younger children should get even more. Click HERE to read more!
Sunday of the Word of God
On January 25 and 26, 2020, the Catholic Church inaugurated the Sunday of the Word of God! In an Apostolic Letter given on September 30, 2019, Pope Francis declared that the Third Sunday of Ordinary Time be designated as the Sunday of the Word of God, to be “devoted to the celebration, study and dissemination of the word of God” and to the sacred scriptures.

In keeping with the pope’s instruction, St. Joseph Catholic Church celebrates and recognizes the role of God’s Word in each of our lives. We invite all in the parish family to reflect on the great importance of sacred scripture in lighting our way to Jesus, who is the Incarnate Word of God. We pray that God’s Word will remain at the center of our lives – on our minds, on our lips and in our hearts.

Please join the Friars on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. for a virtual Reflection – St. Francis and Scripture by Father David. The link will be provided on the parish website and Facebook.

St. Lucy Winter Food Collection
St Lucy Winter Food Collection

A food collection for the benefit of the St Lucy Project will take place on
Saturday January 16 from 10 AM to 2 PM

Once again this will be a “No Contact” collection. After you enter the parking lot, you will be directed to the collection location where volunteers from the Knights of Columbus and the St Joseph’s Youth Group will take your donations from the truck or hatch of your car. Your gifts of non perishable food will be used to help those in our diocese who are facing food challenges, particularly children and the elderly. Thank you in advance for your continuing support of this ministry.
Prayer Leaders
pray_lettering.jpg
We will continue with prayers leaders alphabetically! Each family is asked to make a video of the student(s) and the family reciting the prayers (Our Father, Hail Mary, and St Joseph...Pray for Us) and then send the video to wsjsnews@sjschoolva.org
We look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition!
