Dear Friends,
There’s a scene in The Wizard of Oz that most of us will never forget: Dorothy, with Toto tucked under her arm, taps the heels of her ruby red shoes, and with her eyes closed says, “There’s no place like home.” It’s very much in line with “Home is where your heart is.” It also works for, “Home is where you hang your hat.”
Domain, domestic, domus, dominion, domicile, condominium – all come from the same root, dom-. and relate to ‘home’ in some way. I’ve been wrestling with where ‘home’ really is these last few weeks. Not my own home, but ‘home’ as in the internet galaxy of domain names. St. John’s domain name (internet home) was mistakenly confiscated a few weeks ago (looong story). After spending more than enough time trying to get it back, we decided it was time to move and as you know, moving is a lot of work. It’s takes time to settle in and figure out where to put things. The St. John’s website is still under construction, but it is where we will ‘hang our hat’ soon.
Our domain names, or internet homes, are not where our hearts are though. Our church home is where our hearts are – not the building, but the people. We’ve learned that we don’t have to be inside to worship and yet, going back into the church building for worship can feel like going ‘home’. Is it the same? Will it be the same? Does it need to be?
Stuck in the realm of domain names and homepages, I’ve been thinking about what home means. I’ve learned that it can mean many things for me and I know that I make a lot of inaccurate assumptions about what it means for others. Home is a big four letter word. There’s no place like it, it’s where my heart is, and it’s where I hang my hat (and all my baggage). Today I’m feeling like my true home is an even bigger three letter word: God. Today, I think I’d like to stay home. How about you?
Blessings and peace,
Karen+

9:30 am indoors at St. John’s
Our service will be indoors, with masks. We will continue to alternate Sunday services between St. John’s and St. Stephen’s.
Everyone is welcome to attend all services!
They will also be live streamed so that if you are not physically at church, you can participate from home with the rest of the congregation gathered at the church.
Click below for links to the service and bulletin.

Cardboard needed!
Please bring in all that cardboard you know you’ve been wanting to get rid of! The landscapers (Jessica & Co.) need it for weed control on the embankment.

Health and Well-being
We all want to stay healthy and know that exercise is important. The good news is that you don’t have to buy and expensive gym membership to enjoy exercise that fits you and your needs!
From raking leaves to sweeping sidewalks, there are many things you can do right here at St. Stephen’s to keep moving!

Poem from the Garden
One of the themes of
this summer is the
removal of piles:
piles of bricks, piles of
bark, piles of branches,
piles of wood, piles of
stumps. We're building
hugelkulturs and
stumperies, borders,
and sheet mulching where
we'll want to plant in
the winter. Saturday
from 8:30am to 12,
come help us out!

Food for thought:
Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in. -Robert Frost

|
Kudos to:
-Susan and Robin for being on their knees for hours this week cleaning up the paint lines on the labyrinth to prep for sealing.
-Gregg and Andy for signing checks.

NEEDING PRAYER SUPPORT?
Prayer is one of those things we often think about, might feel inadequate about, believe in but might be unsure how to proceed. How we pray is sometimes unique to each of us. The Church provides help in many ways. If you find yourself in need, of any kind (emotional, physical, spiritual, guidance, etc) consider how St. Stephen's can support you:
* there is a prayer chain of committed pray-ers (who maintain confidentiality).
* tell people about your answers to prayer! and the miracles you witness, or how prayer changes YOU.
Please submit prayer requests to Rev. Karen.
