Through donations received from members and the public, Animal Care and Welfare Inc.

offers assistance for low cost spays and neuters. We also operate our pet placement program by collaborating with shelters, carefully selecting homeless pets and placing them in loving homes.

BIANNUAL NEWSLETTER

AC&W has been very busy this year and we have a lot to be thankful for! We have placed 58 homeless pets into loving homes since restarting our adoption program earlier this year. Although we are working on a much smaller scale than we have in the past, we have found forever homes for 47 cats and 11 dogs in our first four months. We are pleased with these early numbers and look forward to continuing the program into

the coming year.

We want to send out a big thank you to Pet Supplies Plus

in Robinson Township for welcoming us and our pets for adoption events. It has been a great way for us to connect our pets with their potential families and bring awareness to our organization. We also want to send a shout out to

Amy’s Pet Parlor in Oakdale. Amy has been a wonderful

partner in helping us with our adoption program by showcasing some of our pets in her grooming salon. We are grateful to

have such awesome advocates working with us

and we appreciate their support.

AC&W recently worked in conjunction with Hancock County Animal Shelter

as we rescued a large group of dogs and puppies that were involved in an owner surrender.

Many of the puppies (pictured below) came to us needing medical attention while some of the adult dogs needed time and guidance on how to adjust to living outside of a cage.

Hooch (pictured below center) was one of those dogs who was rescued during this particular surrender. He was very scared and didn’t really know what life was all about. He didn’t know how to walk on a leash and wasn’t even sure what grass was. With the patience of AC&W volunteers and his new family, he has come a long way and is thriving in his new home.

Feral cats are still an issue in many areas. AC&W has continued

to work with families who have been worried about stray cat colonies in their neighborhoods. We have helped to get some of these kitties spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. We are happy to say that some of these cats have found their forever homes with the patience of everyone involved. Not all feral cats can become family pets, but we hope our ongoing efforts to assist and educate the public will help some of these stray kitties experience a better life. Understanding the dynamics of these colonies while helping to control the pet population and the transmission of diseases is the first step in the right direction.
