Workforce Development Teacher Training
Yesterday our Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation conducted a robust recruitment and training event for 30 ProStart and HTMP high school teachers at Grand Casino in Hinckley. While the event was hosted in person, other interested teachers also joined in the day via Zoom. The goal of the program was to bring veteran teachers of our hospitality programs together with prospective teachers to provide information and insights that will help them launch the curriculum at their high schools.

We have successfully expanded these workforce development programs to over 90 high schools in recent years, and further expansion is a key strategic goal for our industry to train the best workforce of the future. Programming included a back of the house tour of Grand Casino along with presentations from an all-star panel of hospitality leaders from Grand Casino, veteran high school and college educators, the Minnesota Department of Education, and Hospitality Minnesota staff including Cyndi Keesee, Ben Wogsland and Liz Rammer.

Our grateful thanks to HMEF board member, Dave Garvey, V.P. Food & Beverage for Grand Casino, and all of his colleagues, for making this wonderful day possible for our ProStart and HTMP teachers!
PPP Loan Forgiveness
The Small Business Administration issued a new guidance including frequently asked questions and answers regarding PPP loan forgiveness. If your business is a recipient we recommend reviewing the updated information.
Talks Continue on Federal Relief Package
Talks continued today on a federal relief package for businesses and workers as House Democrats are now negotiating directly with the White House on relief for businesses, workers and local governments.
New National Polling
IPSOS and NPR have released new national polling figures on everything from COVID-19 response to immigration policy.
Live Bands and Music Allowed
On today’s Hospitality Roundtable call, the Health department clarified that live musicians and bands are allowed in hospitality businesses as long as they can socially distance while they perform. [Read the updated guidance]
Restaurant Service Fee Upheld in Court
A Hennepin County judge has dismissed a lawsuit and ruled that a restaurant properly disclosed its service fee to its customers. This is a good decision and the case law provides added clarity to the appropriate use and disclosure of service fees, a growing trend in our industry.
