Principals's Message

Middle School Families:

I was able to witness first hand last night the hard work that our students put into their student led conferences as well as their brilliance in presenting them to their families.  We will continue conferences tonight as well as all day tomorrow.

As a reminder TOMORROW is an Asynchronous day of learning for students.  Please look at the student expectations below.  Thank you Site Council for providing dinner/treats tonight and the opportunity for our staff to be in community with one another.

Last Thursday, I was thrilled to be a part of the Annual Spelling Bee.  The competition was fun to watch but I really appreciated the way that all the participants were cheered on by each other as well as the audience.  Congratulations to all the participants and way to go Shirley!

Due to the Fall Break we will not have an OT News next week and I wanted to wish all of you a restful time with family and friends.  I am grateful to have all of you as part of the Middle School community.

Jason Boll

Asynchronous Day Expectations

The expectation for students on Friday, November 18th is to sign in to Schoology, go to each of their courses and complete the work/activity/assignment that their teacher has posted there between the hours of 8 am to 2 pm. There will also be a question or poll that will be part of each course that day and this is for attendance purposes.

We'll be talking to students about this as well but please make sure they do this part so they get credit for doing their work and being "present". We are planning that each class have approximately 10-20 minutes of asynchronous learning.

Site Council

This week the Site Council was able to sponsor "Conference Meals" for the Middle School staff.

A Huge thank you to Leah Anklam and Laura Truett, who worked incredibly hard to make this happen.

Also, to the many, many families who provided beverages, snacks, side dishes and meals.

What a great way to show how much our amazing school staff is appreciated.

Thank you!!

STEP Toy Drive

In December, STEP provides new toys and Target gift cards to St. Louis Park Children. Registration for this program is November 21-December 12.

Spelling Bee

Congratulations to all 23 of our students who participated in the Spelling Bee.  It was great to see their brilliance in action.  Thanks to all the friends and family who came to support the spellers.  We went 12 rounds with the final 4 contestants being 2 eighth graders and 2 sixth graders.  6th grader, Shirley Salisbury took home the win with the word “Contentious.”  It felt awesome being in community and watching kids shine.

Athletics Spectator Reminder

Due to limited space/capacity in our field house and health/safety we will need to limit the amount of spectators attending the middle school after school events. Spectators will be limited to 2 parents/guardians of players playing in the current game. Staff, other family members, friends and students will not be allowed to attend games due to the limited space available.

District News

St. Louis Park Public Schools will send COVID test kits home with ALL students and staff ahead of Thanksgiving break

Rest, relaxation, and time to connect with family and friends is coming soon to St. Louis Park Public Schools students, families, and staff with No School K-12 from November 23-25. As we enter the winter season, we are seeing the combination of COVID, influenza, the common cold, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) significantly impact the health of students and staff.

District leaders are looking ahead with your health in mind… We are taking steps to increase our cleaning protocol and are strongly recommending that students and staff resume masking. We will also be distributing COVID tests districtwide.

To keep our schools and buildings safe after the break, we strongly encourage all students and staff to test for COVID before returning to school on November 28 or if symptoms appear anytime during the week of the 28th, regardless of vaccination status.

We are excited to announce that St. Louis Park Public Schools is in a position to assist families and staff with this request. Next week, students and staff members will be sent home with two COVID tests.
