Looking Ahead: Outdoor Worship
Next Sunday, July 7, we are taking our weekly Jazz at Four Communion service outdoors to the Michigan Avenue courtyard. We hope you will join us by the fountain that afternoon for a time of worship, the music of the Fourth Church Jazz Quartet, and fellowship with one another, all while surrounded by the beauty of summer!

This Sunday we conclude our “ Big Questions” sermon series with “Is Satan for real?”

As we do so, we want to thank again all who submitted questions and topics you hoped would be addressed from the pulpit!

Curious about our previous questions? Want to read the sermons that explore them? You can find the questions and sermons online.
Also this Sunday, we will be expressing our support of the LGBTQIA community as we once again walk with the Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches—of which we are a partner congregation—in the Chicago Pride Parade.

We will be meeting between 11:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Broadway, south of Wilson and north of Sunnyside Street (across from Target). Our lineup number is 62.

The flag hanging over our Sanctuary steps during Pride Week is another public witness to the inclusive hospitality we extend to all and to our welcome of all of God’s children into the life of the church!
Is produce on your grocery shopping list this weekend?

The Chicago Lights Urban Farm can help!

Come to church this Sunday ready to do some shopping, as Farm staff will be on hand with the fresh produce they have grown. All proceeds benefit the Farm’s community outreach work.
One of our favorite signs of summer is the arrival of Chicago Lights Summer Day students!

As of this past Wednesday, the Gratz Center is abuzz on weekdays with activity, academics, and arts as 138 students in grades 1-9, their teachers, and volunteers join us for six weeks of wonderful summer days.

This marks the program’s 37th year of providing a safe place for youth to prevent summer learning loss, get a jump-start on the upcoming school year, and develop exciting, new talents while having fun.

At the end of the session, students will present a dynamic, multicultural arts performance to which all are invited. (Watch for details in late July!)

We’re grateful for the joy and energy these youth bring to our summer days and ask you to join us in holding the students, volunteers, and staff in prayer.

Have a great summer, everyone!
Through one-to-one relationships that are confidential, Stephen Ministers—who first complete fifty hours of training—extend the pastoral care of Fourth Church clergy staff by providing regular spiritual support for those who are facing one or more of life’s many challenges or transitions.

This past Sunday we commissioned seven new Stephen Ministers:

Blake Anderson
Jean Anderson
Kathleen Cleary
John Clum
David Derks
Sam Psimoulis
Evadne Stephens

We are grateful to the Stephen Ministers for their commitment of time and compassion and for the ongoing pastoral care they provide. Please hold them, their care receivers, and this ministry in your prayers.

If you are interested in meeting with a Stephen Minister or know someone experiencing life challenges who would benefit from such a caring relationship, please leave a message on the Stephen Ministry confidential voicemail at 312.573.3365

Please join us in welcoming the newest members of the Fourth Church family—those who were received into Fourth Church membership this month:

Kirby Adlam
Robert Allen
Deborah Bowen
Carlene Gordon
Akiko Ikeda
Joshua Reilly
Nicole Reilly
Grant Stokes
Please join us in also welcoming to Fourth Church youth from the First Presbyterian Church of Red Wing, Minnesota.

They will be arriving Sunday afternoon for a half-week of our Urban Youth Mission (UYM) program, a time for service and learning about urban mission and ministry.

During their time with us, these youth will have opportunity to explore diverse city neighborhoods while performing valuable hands-on service and reflecting on God, faith, and the Christian call to justice. We look forward to partnering with them in mission!
We currently have need for volunteers to help with Fourth Church Meals Ministry. Do any of these opportunities match your time, talent, interests, or schedule? We could use your help!

  • Individuals to cook and serve Sunday Night Supper at the church
  • Individuals to repackage snack items the week of July 9–11 for our Bag Lunch program

Unless otherwise noted, sign up or learn more by contacting Robert Crouch, Director of Volunteer Ministry.
