Letter from Principal Daws
Dear Marina Families

Welcome to our new school year!!!. I wish we were all coming back to the site on August 17 but we have to wait until it is safe for everyone. So I am looking forward to seeing you online and meeting all of our new students.
We have changed a few things in order to keep in touch with everyone.  I will be the administrator in charge of 6th grade along with Ms. Lamb, Ms. Herrera will be in charge of 7th grade along with Ms. Araujo. Ms. Leicham will be in charge of the 8th grade along with Mr. Yee. So you will be hearing from us. We are also working with Beacon to provide some really fun activities for everyone virtually....and I hope you will all participate. We are working on the schedules and will hopefully have them out for you next week.

We will be speaking with you next week and looking forward to seeing
all of you on line.

Ms. Daws
District Update
The district announced last week that the fall semester will begin with distance learning on August 17th. This means that students are expected to attend and participate in a virtual style class online beginning on that date. Read more about what that looks like in the presentation slides HERE and online HERE.
Technology Resources
SFUSD is lending computers and tablets to students who need it for online learning. In order to receive the technology you need, please fill out the SFUSD Fall 2020 Technology Request Form.
Read Marina's Statement for technology resources HERE.
Watch technology tutorials HERE.

If your student has already borrowed technology from the school or district, please have them continue using that device and do not submit another request.
ParentVue
It is important that you ensure your ParentVue account is set up or updated for the upcoming semester, as this will allow for you to communicate with your student's teachers and see their progress.
Read these INSTRUCTIONS on how to update your ParentVue account or watch a video HERE.
Watch THIS VIDEO to set up your ParentVue account.
Upcoming Virtual Event
The District will be holding a Virtual Board of Education Meeting on August 11th, where they will discuss more plans and ideas for the school year. Parents and families are welcome to join.

Find the information to join HERE.
Family Resources
Both the district website and Marina Family Newsletter are filled with family resources for parenting, food, mental health, activities, and more.

Request SFUSD resources HERE, as well as select from a Master Resource List HERE.
Families of incoming 6th graders, if you missed it, here is the Welcome to Marina Packet that we shared in May. We will continue to share info on how your student can thrive in middle school throughout the semester.

Community Learning Hubs
San Francisco will be introducing Community Learning Hubs, a Citywide, neighborhood-based strategy to support children, youth, and families during the school year.

If you would like to continue receiving information about them, go to THIS LINK and fill out the form.
SFUSD and In-Person Cohorts/Pods FAQs
Many families have been asking about the implementation of In-Person pods and cohorts for students. Read SFUSD's statement HERE regarding these groups and student safety while distant learning.
If you have any questions about the upcoming school year, you can submit them HERE and we will do our best to answer them in an upcoming letter, on our website, or directly to you.
