Schools get ready to 'open'
Cars line up to receive material needed for the virtual new school year.
Not in class
   The new school year is rolling into place in a manner like never seen before, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic.
   Starting on Monday parents pulled up to the entrance of Andover High School to receive material and devices they will need for virtual learning being put in place by the district.
   The official first  day of school with be Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Planning Commission member sought

   The Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees is seeking qualified candidates to fill a vacant position on the Planning Commission.
   The Planning Commission serves as an advisory body to the Board of Trustees on matters involving site plan approvals, zoning ordinance amendments, and other land use considerations. It meets on the first and third Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. The open term for the Planning Commission expires on Jan. 1, 2024.
   To be considered, a person must be a Township elector, 18 years of age or older, who is a U.S. citizen and has lived at least 30 days in Bloomfield Township. The applicant must write a letter of interest and submit a current resume. The Supervisor will review and consider information from all applicants and make a selection for appointment.
   The Supervisor appoints the member of the Planning Commission, subject to approval by a majority of the Board of Trustees.
   The letter of interest and resume should be submitted by email to the Township Supervisor's Office by 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, at the following email address: pmolina@bloomfieldtwp.org. The phone number for the Supervisor's Office is 248-433-7708.
Fall term for art classes begins
At the BBAC
   Fall term virtual/online youth classes and in-person adult classes and workshops are available for all ages and skill levels offered by the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center.
   Classes with expert artists are available in a variety of mediums including adult courses in ceramics, drawing, fiber arts, painting, jewelry and metals, print making and more. Examples of youth and teen classes include art discovery, cartoon and comic art, animation, illustration, sewing, photography and fashion design.
   Enrollment is open now. The fall terms runs Sept. 10 to Dec. 9 for adults. Youth classes will take place Sept.14 to Dec. 5.
