2023 is off to a great start!

There has definitely been a sense of renewed energy and optimism in the gym this last month; it seems like all of you have set new goals for yourselves and are attacking them with renewed enthusiasm!

Remember that while setting goals for ourselves is important, it’s also important to remember to set reasonable goals. We can always have bigger, farther off goals, but having smaller goals along the way towards the end goal can help you stay motivated. I’ve seen it too often where people set goals too lofty, and give up pursuing them shortly after; don’t fall prey to this trap!

And always remember that your coaches and fellow students are always here to help! Your successes are OUR successes!

Welcome New Students!

Every month, more and more people decide to start or continue their martial arts journey with us. Last month we welcomed the following students:

John Murillo

Drue Keenan

Joshua Vora

Dylan Reule

Brandon Coble

Issiah Baker

Adam Blase

Corbin Dunston

Welcome to the C3 family!

Checkmat Gis are Here!

Our new Checkmat gi's are finally here! Now that the design has been finalized, these will be available in our pro shop! Gi's will be stocked in white, but blue and black are also available (do note that blue and black will cost about $20 more). Coach Jake can assist anyone who needs help with getting sized up; get yours ordered and represent Checkmat and C3!

MMA Class Is A Hit!

It's only been on the schedule for a month, but so far Coach Chris Vasil's MMA class on Friday's at 5pm has been an absolute hit! Recreational students and members of the fight team are getting valuable lessons from one of C3's pros about blending all of the things we do together into one, cohesive art.

As a reminder, this is not a beginner level class, and appropriate gear is required. Coach is asking that students have a comfortable sense of their fundamentals in their striking (both offensive and defensive) and grappling skills before coming into class. Students will also need to get a pair of MMA sparring gloves, or puffies as we commonly refer to them as. We have the Combat Corner gloves available upstairs in the pro shop for $54.99+tax. Get your gear and come learn from the Bad Apple!

Grappling Tournaments!

Our grapplers certainly had a busy competition schedule last year, and we're hoping to stay busy again in 2023! We brought home a lot of individual medals, as well as two team trophies, and are looking to build upon the successes of 2022.

Below are the dates listed for competitions that we as a team will be participating in:

The Revolution: April 1st, June 17th, and October 14th

Grappling Industries: March 18th and June 10th

Fuji BJJ: April 22nd, August 19th and December 2nd

Proving Grounds: June 3rd and September 30th

Remember, you are NEVER required to compete but it is definitely encouraged! Grapplers are also not required to compete at all of these dates (we realize tournament fees can start to add up), but these are the dates that we as a team will be competing at.

Remember, if you plan on competing expect to be in grappling classes at least 3-4 times a week as well as doing some extra strength&conditioning work outside of your technical work. If you are competing in a gi, we are now requiring that all students compete in our new C3/Checkmat gis that are now available in the pro shop. If students are wanting to compete are other competitions that aren't listed, they need to get approval from a Coach and also need to make sure that someone can be there to coach them.

Good luck to all of our grapplers!

Level Up In Our Kickboxing Program!

While kickboxing is a popular competitive sport and martial arts style, it doesn't have a belt system to show progression of skill and knowledge like how Karate, Taekwondo, and other traditional martial arts do. Because of that, it can be hard sometimes for students to measure their progress.

We have at C3 our Kickboxing Certification program to do just that! These levels are meant to both your physical skills and knowledge of kickboxing; as the levels progress, the techniques and concepts will get more and more difficult. The list of techniques and terms for each Level are located on the shelf above the big mirror on the main training floor.

To earn your certifications, students must successfully pass a brief pretest to show that they are ready to test. If they pass that, they will be allowed to do the full test, which is much longer. If the student passes, they earn their certificate as well as one of the wrist bands shown in the picture!

Get with a coach and see if you're ready to test! Let's see how many students we can get to level up in 2023!

See you on the mats!
