AFAC Volunteer Awards
We at AFAC treasure each of our volunteers and the gifts that they bring. Collectively, in normal times, more than 3,000 volunteers donate close to 50,000 volunteer hours. Each year, AFAC staff gathers to decide which volunteers to recognize from this great group. This is a tough decision each year, but this year was the hardest of all.

Here are the 2021 Volunteer Award winners:

Volunteers of the Year: Doris Bennett (pictured on the left) & Volunteers who served over 200+ hours between March 2020 - March 2021 (some pictured on the top right)
Teen Volunteers of the Year: Akiva Dienstfrey & Lillian Thro
Community Partners of the Year: Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation & Kinder Haus Toys (donations delivery on the bottom left)
Volunteer Group of the Year: The Carrot Crew

Our traditional volunteer picnic has morphed into a volunteer recognition program that will take place on Sunday, June 13 at The Board Room. Unfortunately, due to COVID, we are only able to invite those that we are honoring (and a few of their guests). We hope to celebrate all of our volunteer more fully next year.
Upcoming Events
AFAC Golf Tournament
Monday, September 20
Save the date for AFAC's 7th Annual Golf Tournament, sponsored by Williams & Connolly! This tournament returns to the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington. Sponsorships are now available. For more information, visit our event page.
Sponsor Purchased Food (SPF) Program
Participating in our Sponsor Purchased Food (SPF) program is an excellent way to help AFAC feed our neighbors in need. Earlier this month, members of The Falls Church Episcopal Church helped bag 10,000 lbs of produce outside of their own building. This past weekend, youth members from Rock Spring UCC bagged 1,000 lbs of apples. If you have a group and are interested in participating in our SPF program, click here to read more.
Volunteer News
Due to an overwhelming amount of volunteer interest, we are not accepting new volunteer applications until further notice. (Existing volunteers with active accounts can log into the Volunteer Calendar for available shifts). In the meantime, please consider hosting a food drive or go to Volunteer Arlington to explore other opportunities in the area.

If you are a teenager who needs volunteer hours for school, scouts, or religious service, please email us at volunteer4afac@afac.org and we will walk you through the food drive process. We will verify one minute of service for every pound of food donated (ex. 300 pounds would equal 5 hours).

We really appreciate your patience and understanding. Please check back in August for an update.
Thank Yous
Thank you to the Arlington County Police Department for collecting 3,671 pounds of food for AFAC during their 'Fill the Cruiser' food drive on May 18!

Thanks to the Glencarlyn neighborhood, who have collected 8,442 pounds of food since the start of the pandemic! Neighbors continue to leave food donation boxes outside their doors and frequently bring their filled bins down to AFAC.
Thank you to Ginny Wright and Body by Ginny for hosting another amazing Obstacle Run/Walk for AFAC! In the 9th edition of this race, she raised over $9,000 to help AFAC feed our neighbors in need. Thank you Ginny!

And thank you to everyone who have generously supported AFAC through food donations, contributions, and by volunteering their time. We wouldn't be able to serve our community without your help!
