Awareness, Connection, Responsibility & Service
Be and Support Peace each day

It has been a most sad and sobering time since we learned about Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. The news and chilling images of the ongoing violence and unjustified savage attack of innocent people is deeply disturbing in a country trying to safeguard and sustain it's democracy and independence. It has left me feeling deeply sad, anxious and concerned about the state of our world and democracy in general throughout the world. When we engage in spiritual practices like yoga and meditation, we grow in awareness of our sacredness and that of each living being in the world. We also come to know deeply that we are all divinely connected to each other-there is no separation. What happens to the people of Ukraine deeply affects us as we are all connected to each other. Also, what is happening to the people of Ukraine could happen to us.

This time of war and great upheaval in Ukraine beckons us to pay attention and not look away. As we grow in awareness of our sacred connection to each other, it transforms us to see more clearly and realize that with awareness comes responsibility. We are not intended to ignore or deny the pain and suffering of others. Awareness compels us to see more clearly and not look away. So, it is reasonable that we may be feeling angry, sad, distressed, vulnerable, anxious, helpless and unsafe about what is going on in Ukraine and how our country and the rest of the world is responding. As spiritual beings, we are guided to be a witness, engage and respond to what goes on in the world each day.

Then, we can choose how we respond to the war and the injustice. It is so important to remember we each have daily choices of how we choose to respond, be of service and bring peace into the world. For example, we can choose to:

Stay Aware and informed about what is going on in the world; and not shut down;

Balance how much news and social media we take in daily so as not to become overwhelmed and overly anxious;

Commit to daily prayers for the people of Ukraine for the war to stop and for all the people to get the support and assistance they need; Pray that our world make the correct choices in offering support to help Ukraine;

Send donations to organizations that are helping all the people of Ukraine. Send what you can. Remember, each donation will help support a person's survival;

Remember the power of your voice and your vote... Vote for individuals who support a just and peaceful world;

Support businesses and companies who stand up for Ukraine and choose not to solicit companies that do not. Remember, how and where you spend your money is living consciously.

Daily sit in silence, take deep abdominal breaths to feel the wholeness of your being and the innate peace that resides within you;

Daily meditate-even for ten minutes each day- to build up your reservoir to be peace-to live in peace.

Each time we turn into our breath and meditate, we are replenished with the divine energy that lives within us. Each time we sit in meditation, we grow in awareness. Trust the wisdom of your breath, it will comfort, guide and protect you. Remember, in each breath lives supreme peace. Whether you feel anxious or settled when you sit in meditation, each moment in meditation is a good moment! It will serve you throughout your day and help you to live as peacefully as you can.

Breath practices and meditation help us to sit with, process and release all of our feelings. These sacred practices are a refuge and an anchor to the unsteadiness, tragedies and heartaches of our times and will bring us to the innate peace and calm that infinitely reside in our hearts.

When we grow in awareness of our sacredness and our divine connection to each other, we realize we have a responsibility to each do our part to contribute to the healing and peace of our world. Each of us has a responsibility to bring as much peace into the world as we can each day. How we think, speak and act can contribute to peace or chaos. Humbly acknowledge your spiritual power and capacity to be peace and bring more peace into your heart, your relationships and the world each day. Ask yourself: What does peace invite you to do on a daily basis? What is the most authentic and peaceful response you can offer in any situation? Further, how can you be of service? Where are you called to serve? Trust the wisdom of your soul to provide the answers when you are ready to receive them.

If you like, come join us for yoga and meditation. See all offerings below. Please, keep praying for peace. Our collective prayers can transform and heal our world.

 At the entrance to the memorial park in Kyiv, Ukraine, there is a sculpture of an extremely thin girl with a very sad look holding a handful of wheat ears in her hands. This is a monument that commemorates a historical event known as the Holodomor. After the end of the First World War, Ukraine was an independent state, but in 1919 the Soviet Union forced it into the community of Soviet states. In 1932–1933, dictator Josef Stalin engineered a food shortage in Soviet Ukraine. His goal was to destroy Ukrainian ambitions for independence and ensure Ukrainian subservience to the Soviet state. As a result, millions of Ukrainians experienced the extended suffering of desperate hunger and died. This famine‐genocide is now known as the Holodomor.
The Holodomor at that time broke Ukrainian resistance, but it made the desire for Ukraine's independence from Russia eternal.

What is meditation?
"Becoming one with the soul. It means banishing the consciousness of being related to the body and to human limitations, and trying to remember that one is a soul. Meditation brings proof of the existence of God. A man looking at the sky and the mountains and the ocean does not detect in them the Divine Presence. The subtle beam of the Creator is imperceptible to the human gaze. Because He is everywhere, it is as if He were nowhere. Being infinite, God cannot be limited to any form, human or stone; yet He is manifest in all forms. One can rightly say that God manifests in every man as well as in great saints, for He is present in all."
Paramahansa Yogananda
