Muirhead Lease
We leased some land from George and Linda Muirhead, Chimney Rock, Colorado, to keep our bulls for the summer. Their kids and grandkids loved watching them.
Saying goodbye

This bull looks amazing. He is going in with the cows this week. Hoping for some really good calves next spring.
Aztec Ruins
Took my grandkids to the Aztec Ruins in Aztec, New Mexico. What a great time they had! I highly recommend it. Not only is it easy to get to, but it is a very easy (and educational) walk to experience the ruins and appreciate how these people lived.
They were able to try their hands at crushing corn with a metate, or grinding stone. That's Charlee on the left, Reece above, Bella bottom left, and Teeg bottom right.
When it rains . . .
This arroyo normally does not have a lick of water in it. Last Monday we had a flash flood on the ranch and it was full and overflowing. It was CRAZY! Haven't had a storm like this in 10 years. While the moisture was so very welcome it took it's toll on our pond, which is now very silted in. We spent a lot on money clearing out that pond this past spring, and it may be worse now than before we started. Oh well, life on the ranch. Win some, lose some.
USDA Beef Ready!
Went to Westcliffe a few weeks ago to pick up our new USDA meat. It is a very small but interesting old town. We really enjoyed walking through it.
An old feedstore, turned into a restaurant. Unfortunately it was closed when we were there.
Next to the feedstore is the old jail. It was very well preserved and quite interesting to see.
The best part is that we now have a really good selection of USDA beef.
The processing facility is Amish owned and operated, and honestly, you could eat off the floor it was so clean. The meat looks great and we are extremely pleased with the job they did for us. We will be taking more animals in tomorrow. It is a very long 4 1/2 hour trip, one way, but the quality of the product makes it worth it. Hope you agree.

We are offering a few new cuts, so be sure and take a careful look!
Harvest Time
Harvest time is the best time, but it also means lots of hard work putting up the fruits and vegetables. So very rewarding, though. Gonna try my hand at making wine this year. More on that in a future newsletter.
One of our apple trees is an early one, so last week I picked apples. Although quite tasty I think they are best suited for pies and baking.
Getting LOTS of tomatoes and squash of all kinds. I think Allan might already be getting tired of squash. Time to share with friends and family.
My friend, Ann, invited me to pick apricots on her place. So nice! Crazy to have so much tasty, beautiful fruit. Trying to come up with ideas for using it all. Nice problem to have.

In Closing . . .
Such a busy, productive summer. No complaining, though. Just saying.

We have been getting quite a bit of rain lately. While not as much as in surrounding areas, it is still a lot more than we have gotten for a lot of years. So often the rains split and go around us, but every so often it must get confused and falls on us! Allan gets a little help with the irrigating and is ever grateful. And of course my garden loves the nutrients from fresh rain.

The ranch and leases look great, grass is growing strong, and the harvest looks very promising. Hope your summer is producing as good, or better, results. Stay healthy, be happy, and don't forget to say thanks for all our blessings. God bless you all.
