Volunteers Needed
Meaningful work. Satisfying results. New friendships.
We invite you to share your time and talents with Northwestern OLLI. There is great personal reward in being actively involved in an organization you care about. Training provided as needed. Follow the links below to sign up to become an OLLI VOLLI! (Specific days and times are listed within the links when applicable. Limited slots available.)
Greeters
Be a part of the energy and excitement of our return to campus by greeting members, answering questions, and guiding them to their study groups. Bring your smile and your enthusiasm for an outstanding year ahead!

Membership Purchase and Registration Assistant
If you have done your share of online shopping, this volunteer role may be your perfect match. Purchasing OLLI memberships and registering for study groups is similar to online shopping. Help others with these tasks, including those who are less comfortable with technology or who do not have the devices needed. Fellow OLLI members are always extremely grateful for this support. Bring your laptop or iPad to the offices where we will work together to assist members.

AV Equipment Assistant
We are fortunate to have the latest and greatest AV and hearing assist equipment at both of our campuses. Help coordinators become comfortable with this equipment as we ease back onto campus. Train-the-trainer available as needed. You’ll be able to brag to your grandkids about all you know!

Parking Validation Assistant
In light of possible parking changes in Chicago, we may need individuals to assist with the parking validation process. Use your customer service and organization skills to help manage this process.

Tech Team
Do you have general technical aptitude? Then we have a job for you! Team members needed for ongoing virtual assistance like Zoom advice, Canvas site set up, and Augusoft coordinator functionality. Experience the fun of technology and the satisfaction of helping others. This team is most busy prior to and at the beginning of each term, as coordinators and members get ramped up for the next set of study groups.

Wildcard Assistant
Several hundred Wildcards will be processed following the end of fall registration. Many hands make light work. Affix labels and stuff envelopes, and in the spirit of the quilting days, we will talk and laugh while doing it. Once we have all the materials, we will schedule one full day to complete the work, but you will have the opportunity to volunteer for three-hour time slots. This will be done at the Evanston location.

Art Curator
Many OLLI members are talented photographers and painters. We are happy to showcase these talents in our OLLI spaces. Art Curators will determine a fair method for choosing and rotating member artwork in our Evanston and Chicago locations, and for hanging and returning the artwork.

Librarian
Evanston has a library of past study group books and other material. Put your organization skills to work as you prepare the library for the fall semester and keep the library updated as new material arrives.

Ongoing Office Assistant
If you would like to volunteer where the action happens, we welcome your regular commitment to assisting in the office. Answer member questions (in person and via phone), relieve staff so they can take a lunch break without leaving the office unattended, and assist with basic office tasks. Sign up for a day of the week that works for you; select mornings (9:15 – 11:15am) or afternoons (11:30am – 1:30pm). Commit to a regular schedule with flexibility for time away and your other obligations. A volunteer scheduler will contact you about your specific availability. Be a part of the hustle and bustle of an active and fun environment!

Volunteer Scheduler - Office Assistants - Chicago
If you’re a master planner and keep an outstanding calendar, we could use your skills to schedule the Office Assistant Volunteers. Help ensure there is office assistance each day, considering volunteer availability and preference. Be the one that makes the magic happen!

LIBRARY INFORMATION
Northwestern Main Library is Open
Library stacks are now open, and OLLI members can access the Main Library building in Evanston. Opening the stacks means that the Hathi Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS), which provided digital access to about 80% of our print books, has ceased since the physical books are available once again.

Schaffner Library on the Chicago campus remains closed through summer.

Entering Main Library: We recommend that you bring your Wildcard to save time when checking in at the Welcome Desk. If you do not have a Wildcard you will need to show a photo ID, such as your driver's license, state Identification card, or passport. Click Here for library hours.

Until further notice, NU library staff will continue to ship books to patrons who are not able to come to the library in person.

Instructions:
  • Go to the Library Website
  • Click the Request function for a particular item
  • Click Pickup Location menu and select Personal Delivery, Home.
  • Enter your street address and zip code in the Notes field.
  • Click Send Request.

If you need help finding resources for your study group, or have questions about other library-related matters, email Tracy Coyne at tracy-coyne@northwestern.edu
