The HVIP Program will re-open at 10 a.m, March 30, 2022. Additionally, the following set-aside funds will also become available at the same time.
- $65.5 million for public transit buses
- $46 million for Class 8 tractors performing drayage operations
- $122 million for the Public School Bus Set-Aside for Small and Medium Air Districts
- School bus requests ineligible for the set-aside will be funded out of standard HVIP

EPA Proposes New HD Emission Standards
|
|
The EPA proposed new emission standards for HD vehicles starting in 2027. The new standards would mandate a 50% NOx reduction by 2040. The new standards would also change emission test procedures, useful life emission warranties and require HD GHG updates.

CARB 3-Year Plan--Transportation Equity Investments

CARB will hold a public workshop to discuss an update to the three-year plan for light-duty vehicle and clean transportation equity investments on March 30 at 12:30.

Hyzon Motors has signed an MOU with one of the largest British logistics companies to deploy heavy-duty fuel cell electric trucks. Hyzon will also be one of the main fuel cell truck providers at the “Hydrogen Village and Capitol Day” on April 6 from 9am - 4pm at the State Capital.

NGVi CNG Inspection Training--New DOT Requirements
|
|
The US DOT has updated their CNG tank inspection requirements and NGVi has updated their training and certification instruction. The revised requirements include cylinder inspections after any fire or accident and inspection intervals.

Lightning eMotors and Proterra are cosponsoring a webinar on 3/17/22 at 10am covering the $5B LoNo grant funds being made available by the FTA for transit and shuttle services.

Viatec’s ePTO system uses stored grid power to operate auxiliary equipment on work trucks to reduce or prevent the need to idle engines at worksites. Case studies have shown annual operating savings of nearly 900 hours of idling and over 1,600 gallons of fuel saved. The Viatec ePTO is eligible for HVIP vouchers.

Strategic Biofuels in Louisiana has completed engineering for a Renewable Diesel (RD) facility using woody biomass as a feedstock that will have a Carbon Intensity (CI) rating of -278

Tesla has announced another price increase. The base Model price one year ago was $37,190 but following several increases, the price is now 34% higher at $46,690, pushing it much farther away from the previously-promised $35,000 price point.

Ethanol producers and farm lobbies have joined 16 states opposing EPA rules that the biofuels producers say essentially mandate EVs, an authority that the producers say EPA does not have.

Safran Helicopter Engines and Bell Textron will test SAF in a Bell 505 helicopter with an Arrius 2R engine. The companies have set a goal of using 20% SAF by 2025, working to a goal of 100% SAF as soon as possible.

Starbucks plans to partner with Volvo and Chargepoint to install EVSE approximately every 100 miles along a 1,350 mile highway between Seattle and Denver.

Honda Stationary Fuel Cell Power

Honda will install a zero-emission stationary power station using a hydrogen fuel cell to provide electricity to their Torrance corporate headquarters. This system will use the proven components from their Clarity auto fuel cells, daisy-chained to produce one megawatt of electricity in a configuration that allows a wide range of system footprints.

The North American Council for Fleet Efficiency (NACFE) sponsored a panel on the future of various fuels with experts from each fuel technology: diesel, battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell. The event was structured as a traditional debate with each fuel making their case, a three minute rebuttal by each presenter, and a final direct question period.
