The annual Treasures in the Archives event showcases rarely heard stories behind collections at the Heinz History Center’s Detre Library & Archives.
This year’s virtual event will feature live looks at original documents from the collection using a special document camera. It will also include opportunities to connect with the archivists who work with these materials every day.
We’ll explore:
• the art of "field gathering," where you can become an archivist;
• the intentionality of scrapbooks and the beautiful stories they tell, as told through the scrapbooks of the DeRoy family;
• the pros and cons of large collections, as told through Kennywood Park’s records.
This signature event on the Detre Library & Archives calendar is a chance to learn about the lives of Western Pennsylvanians through one-of-a-kind photographs and documents.
Admission is FREE and open to all. Please register in advance.
Open captioning and American Sign Language will be provided at this program.
