The St. Ignatius School, once a seemingly impossible dream, has come to fruition. Yet, unexpected hurdles must be overcome for that dream to function. Now, the school must satisfy the demands of the Indian government by July 2023 to be granted permanent accreditation. Acceptance by the Board of Education gives license to educate students through the twelfth grade.

The Theotokos Girls Orphanage has been educating girls since 1999. The girls arrived as young children and are now young adults, teaching at the orphanage’s school. These teachers have graduated with honors from their respective universities around Kolkata earning impressive degrees in business, education, music, and dance. During the two year COVID shutdown and under the guidance of Sister Nectaria who was in Greece, the girls successfully managed the operations of the school and orphanage. They have dedicated themselves to carrying out the mission of educating their younger brothers and sisters.
We are proud of these stellar young women working at St. Ignatius High School! Through YOUR help, their hard work, and God’s blessing, they have become accomplished, compassionate educators and administrators. They love the younger children and instill dreams of achieving an education and living productive lives.

In 2017, the plan to build a new school building was underway with the goals of expanding the capacity from the current 625 up to 2000 students, including grades 9 to 12, and obtaining accreditation.
In May 2019, the new St. Ignatius High School was inaugurated. After the COVID shutdown in June 2022, government officials scrupulously inspected every aspect of the facility, resulting in the granting of provisional accreditation.
An excellent free education will continue to be provided to the orphaned children while tuition will only be charged to the day and boarding students of financially capable families. This arrangement will ultimately make the school self-sufficient.
