2020 AGC of America Workforce Survey

The construction industry has experienced some very significant and sudden changes during the past few months that have led to dramatic changes in demand for work and the need for new workers.

AGC of America is asking construction firms to take a few minutes to complete the following workforce survey.

Your responses will be kept confidential; only aggregated results will be reported. The results will help AGC of America better outline the current situation to elected and appointed officials, the media, educators and your peers within the business community. The more people understand the scope, and consequences, of current construction labor market conditions, the more likely they are to enact measures to support the industry.
2020/21 Leadership Blueprint Program Cancelled

We are disappointed to announce that the AGC of Minnesota 2020/21 Leadership Blueprint series has been cancelled. Current conditions make it impossible to conduct this valuable training successfully.

Thank you to all our supporting members who make this leadership training series a strong and desired program! The Leadership Blueprint will return in November 2021.

Any questions should be directed to Merry Beckmann. More information on the program can be found here.

90 days to complete foundation construction for the new home to McDonald's Corporation's world headquarters in Chicago's West Loop

The 9-story commercial building called for accelerated project delivery methods. The overlapping of construction schedules with design phases that were still in flux meant that the foundation system had to be able to facilitate a variety of design scenarios that could occur while attempting to minimize the use of conservative design assumptions to keep project costs down. Construction Partnering Program

Did you know that there is a program that pairs majority owned companies and M/WBE companies to create mentoring industry relationships?  The Construction Partnering Program is over 20 years old and has been successful in growing M/WBE capacity in the industry.  Majority owned firms such as Kraus-Anderson, McGough, Gephart, Danny's, Frerichs and more all have a partner firm.  The Majority owned firms provide business mentorship to their partner, helping the M/WBE company learn best practices and build a successful business.  In addition, the partnerships work on projects together, creating a trusted subcontractor for the majority owned firm.

The program is facilitated by AGC of Minnesota's strategic partner association - the Association of Women Contractors.  They are currently looking for GCs and 1st tier Subcontractors to mentor minority or woman owned contractors. Additional information can be found here.
$1.1 million in grand funds available from MPCA for diesel vehicle replacement
  • Apply by September 18, 2020.
  • Priority given to vehicle replacements that benefit overburdened communities.
  • For more information about applying for a grant, click here.
  • Small business assistance also available
In Minnesota, people of color and lower-income residents are exposed to more air pollution, especially pollution from vehicles.  Fine particles are one of the main pollutants from old diesel trucks, construction equipment, trains, and boats.

Some small businesses may not have the immediate funds to purchase new equipment up front (and then be reimbursed for a portion of that cost). Small business applicants are also encouraged to consider zero-percent interest Small Business Environmental Improvement Loans up to $75,000 for capital equipment purchases that help meet or exceed environmental regulations. Loan funding can be used as gap funding for a grant or to leverage funding for a larger project.
