OUR FIRST HOT DOG DAY IS THIS FRIDAY!

This Friday, October 1st is our very first Hot Dog Day! The 2 ½ Men BBQ food truck is offering our students a hot dog, fries and a drink.

To all our new families, TAPP (which is like our PTA) likes to provide a hot lunch for our students several times a month. This also raises funds for TAPP to help provide our teachers with supplies and other items needed in their classrooms. TAPP volunteers will deliver the lunches to each classroom.

Once a month 2 ½ Men BBQ will offer a hot dog, fries, and a Capri Sun for lunch. Twice a month pizza from Monroe Pizza and Pints will be available for all those who participate. The pizza lunch consists of one or two slices of either cheese or pepperoni pizza, a drink (usually a Capri Sun) and a cookie.

You will need to prepay for lunches ahead of time. You will also need to decide ahead of time what kind of pizza (cheese or pepperoni) and quantity (one slice or two slice) your student(s) wants.

There are two options for paying. You can pay through the end of this semester (Christmas break) or for the year.
Here is the breakdown:

Pay for full year:
One Slice - $80
Two Slices - $112
Hot dog - $63

Pay by semester:
First Semester:
One Slice - $25
Two Slices - $35
Hot dog - $21

Second Semester:
One Slice - $55
Two Slices - $77
Hot dog - $42

Please bring your payment to the office by end of day tomorrow, Tuesday, September 28th in order to have your student participate in this Friday's Hot Dog Day. Please understand this is not refundable.

KNIGHTS CHALLENGE

Last year our Knights Challenge was a wonderful experience and a great success thanks to the amazing Apex leadership company. Apex is a 2-week interactive leadership & character building program combined with a fitness focused event fundraiser to help schools raise much needed funds.
Tomorrow we will start our Apex Fun Run event fundraiser with a pep rally.
There's even a pep rally for parents. (The "Parent Pep Rally" link.)
Tomorrow your student(s) will be sent home with more information about the event and their unique access code to get them started.
POPCORN DAY

There is still time to sign your student(s) up for Popcorn Days. If you'd like your student to participate in Popcorn Days it's just $8 per student for the remainder of the year. We are asking parents to prepay for the year. Please submit payment to the office before October 22nd.

MOMS IN PRAYER

The Moms in Prayer group provides a good way for moms to connect with other moms, support each other, and most importantly pray together.

We meet Mondays at 9am across from the school at New Hope Fellowship Church.
Tentative scheduled meetings are every 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday except Holidays. See our tentative schedule below.

This is a very open and welcoming group. Feel free to share as much or as little as you would like, ask for prayers, or simply sit with us to enjoy the love and support of other moms in the same stage of life.

We understand schedule constraints so please feel free to come when you are able.
We look forward to meeting you and praying with you!

KEEPING EVERYONE HEALTHY

We want to do everything we can to keep our students healthy and all our classrooms open each school day. Last year we were blessed to meet every school day! One of the main reasons we were able to accomplish this was because of you! Our parents were very vigilant. This year has started out the same way. Thank you for keeping your students home if they are exhibiting any of the signs for COVID or any other health concerns. To keep us in the loop, please give us a call in the morning to notify us that your child is sick and missing school for the day. If you prefer, send us an email at secretary@monroechristian.org to notify us. Thank you for partnering with us!

LOVE AND LOGIC TIP

Encourage Your Kids To Entertain Themselves
Many children spend their first few years of life being entertained by electronic devices, television, and exciting toys with batteries. These kids often lack critical skills for success in school. That’s the bottom line. Children who spend their early years playing in the sandbox, coloring with crayons, chasing butterflies, and stomping around in mud puddles have been given a great gift. The skills they develop through these simple, yet important activities foster success from preschool through graduate school. That’s the good news.

Unfortunately, too many loving, intelligent, and well-meaning parents fall into the trap of believing that “good parents” keep their children entertained and stimulated every moment of the day. When they see their children getting “bored,” they quickly intervene with an electronic device or a fun activity. As a result, their youngsters spend way too much time pushing the buttons on exciting electronic toys, staring at screens, and riding in the car from one activity to another. Sadly, little or no time is left over for running, playing, and being creative. Children who’ve been constantly entertained grow into adults who are constantly bored.

Love and Logic parents give their kids an advantage in life by understanding that children need plenty of opportunities to find themselves in a rather dull or “boring” situation. Why? Because these situations encourage youngsters to develop and practice creative ways of entertaining themselves—and exploring the vast and exciting frontiers of imagination and creative problem solving.

Because they know the importance of creative play and exploration for healthy development of young brains, Love and Logic parents provide plenty of Love and Logic “Boredom Training Sessions.” Here are the five steps for a “Boredom Training Session”:
Step 1:
Plan for providing dull periods of time in your home.
Step 2:
Provide plenty of materials and toys that foster creativity.
Step 3:
Pray that your child will come to you and say, “I’m bored.”
Step 4:
Place primary responsibility for solving this “boredom problem” on your child.
Step 5:

“Notice and describe” when your child is playing independently. You could say:

“You built that by yourself?”

“That book looks really interesting.”

“You turned Teddy into a monster.”

“I noticed that you made three pictures.”

You’ll be amazed at how brightly your child’s eyes will shine when you apply these steps! Learn about other ways to nurture creativity and academic success in my book, From Bad Grades to a Great Life!

Thanks for reading!

Our goal is to help as many families as possible.

FREE & EASY WAYS TO HELP THE SCHOOL

There are many ways you can help the school that are free and easy.

If you have already designated MCS as your Community Reward, please take a minute and check if it is still active. (The community reward must be renewed yearly.)

Our scripture theme for this year is based on Galatians 5:22-23, 25
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit
