About the Artists

Rachel Catalano, Artistic Director

Rachel Catalano is the Artistic Director of Fresh Congress, a San Diego based contemporary dance company. She received her formal training from Dennis and Kathy Landsman in Kansas City, where she studied classical ballet pre-professionally for 11 years. At 15 years old, she was accepted as the youngest trainee at Störling Dance Theater, where she realized her passion for modern and contemporary dance. She has since performed professionally in companies such as MAXXAS Dance Theater, Kansas City Movement, Fall Contemporary Aerial Dance, and Numinous Flux Contemporary Dance.

In 2017, Rachel continued her training in Paris, France and attended Studio Harmonic’s Ecole de Formation, where both of her final choreography projects were chosen to be featured in the showcase. She has worked closely with renowned dancers/choreographers including Francie Huber, Judy Rice, John Magnus, Paula Weber, Banning Bouldin, Carrie Gerow, Corrine Lanselle, Stephanie Chatton, and Joy Davis. Ms. Catalano has booked multiple commercials, music videos and live performances including Jason Mraz's debut of “Shine” in February 2020, which was featured on the Today Show.

Rachel has taught multiple styles of dance for over 15 years all around the United States, and is passionate about educating young dancers to move with honesty and integrity. At the core of her teaching is the belief that art is the vehicle for the most profound impact you can have on someone's life: to make them feel understood.
Featured Dancers
Miranda Reed
Is a creative mover from Nashville, currently living in San Diego.

She is drawn to somatic movement and exploring her own strengths and limitations though contemporary dance.

Her introduction to contemporary movement was through her training with Rachel Catalano in Nashville, TN.

At Middle Tennessee State University, she minored in Dance Studies while completing her Bachelor’s, and was a member of the MTSU Dance Theater company. Here, she had the opportunity to work closely with faculty including program director Meg Booker, and had original repertoire of Isadora Duncan set on her.

Dance is a passion and a profession for her, but most importantly a safe place that Miranda has always come back to.

This is her first season with Fresh Congress, but she is delighted to be able to work alongside Rachel again. Above all else, she believes that dance should be accessible and safe for anyone to feel, explore, and find themselves.
