New Study: Gen-X Is the New Baby Boomer When It Comes to Ageism in Hiring.
A new global survey concludes that hiring managers may be discriminating against those perceived as less digitally savvy.
BY ALICIA DONIGER, EDITORIAL INTERN, INC.

Can't find workers fast enough? Put Gen-Xers at the top of your hiring list.
Just under two-thirds of Gen-X job seekers -- those aged 45 to 60 -- have been unemployed for longer than a year, according to a new global survey of employees, employers, and hiring managers conducted by Generation, a nonprofit employment organization. That compares to 52 percent of job seekers aged 35 to 44 who remained unemployed for longer than a year, and 36 percent for those aged 18 to 34.
Meanwhile, the survey, which was conducted between March and May 2021, also notes that according to employers, 90 percent of workers age 45 or older have the same long-term potential as their younger cohort.
In other words, those with more tenure are just as good at their jobs as those with less, but they have a harder time finding work than their less-experienced counterparts. The study concludes that the fault for this imbalance may reside with hiring managers.
Generation reported that hiring managers say candidates age 35 to 44 have greater "relevant education, salient prior work, and the right technical skills for the job" than those in the older cohort. "Deep-seated societal issues and attitudes lie at the heart of age-based biases, and they will take time to address," say the report's authors.

Two Colleges Sign Agreement To Partner On Advanced Manufacturing And Workforce Training

Clarkson University and Clinton Community College signed a new agreement Tuesday morning extending and expanding a partnership between the two colleges to advance engineering studies and workforce training.
North Country officials and workforce leaders met at Clinton Community College’s Institute for Advanced Manufacturing to celebrate the signing of the new memorandum of understanding.

Clinton Community College President Ray DiPasquale says this revised and renewed agreement reopens the past ability of students to have seamless transfer to Clarkson University. A second piece expands research and development and works with business and industry as partners.
“It’s taking advantage of both faculties," DiPasquale said. "It’s taking advantage of the students who are studying masters and doctoral level courses. Giving them the ability to have hands on experience with equipment. So it’s taking it to the next level where Clarkson and Clinton Community College have that seamless ability as partners to work together on projects, on workforce projects, on helping the workforce get stronger in the area and looking at business needs and saying let’s come up with a solution to help. Unique in its way that not many colleges do that. So it’s a really strong partnership that will bring the two schools together in ways that most colleges never get to do.”
