This collection of 150 abstracts deals primarily with the nature, effectiveness, and future of federal immigration policy. Broad topics include: admission policy, border management, detention and deportation policy, temporary visa programs, legalization programs, and birthright citizenship. Several studies trace the development of immigration law and policy in the United States, including the legacy of racism in immigration law - a legacy that some scholars think has resurfaced in the Trump presidency. Researchers have also shown interest in how administrative procedures -- sometimes referred to as the "invisible wall" -- have recently been used to greatly reduce immigration levels. Other studies attempt to set forth the general principles that should govern immigration policy, often urging the revival of bipartisanship in migration management. Another theme that has attracted scholarly attention is the relative merits of "points-based" vs. family-based immigration systems. Scholars have also shown interest in the "when, where, why, and how" of legalization programs, including DACA, TPS, and U-Visas. Almost all research highlighted in this collection was produced over the last decade.
