Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) every 3 years in collaboration with local healthcare systems and community partners to measure the health of Maricopa County by identifying strengths, challenges, health priorities, and opportunities to address and improve public health. Check out this 2 minute video below for more information about how you can be a CHNA champion:

Funding is available to agencies, municipalities, and organizations in Maricopa County to aid in community outreach, engagement, distribution, and collection support for the 2023 CHNA survey. Especially those that have direct relationships with populations that are historically marginalized and have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more about these populations here.

Community Event Submission Form

Tell us about events in your community!

As we prepare for the launch of the CHNA survey, we're looking for outreach opportunities to share the survey with the community. We understand that our collective efforts to promote the survey will help us better achieve the goal of representative data and improved health, so we want to hear from you.

If your organization has any upcoming community events in Winter/Spring 2023, please let us know here!

IRC New Roots Food Security and Agriculture Program Opportunities

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) New Roots program is recruiting community gardeners and beginning farmers who want access to land, resources, training and technical assistance. Additionally, the program has opportunities for the community to purchase fresh produce through the weekly CSA program and monthly farmers market.

For newer arrivals to Phoenix, New Roots is also offering a multi course Navigating a New Food System program focused on nutrition education, how to access food benefits, and where to find healthy, culturally appropriate food.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Needs You!

The City of Phoenix needs your help to save taxpayers hundreds of dollars on filing their taxes. The City’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will provide all the free training you need to help low-to-limited-income individuals and families file their returns for free. VITA volunteers are certified by the IRS to prepare basic tax returns or help taxpayers complete their own taxes using free tax software. Volunteering for VITA doesn’t require a huge time commitment and comes with a flexible schedule.

The HIPMC Team wishes you a happy and healthy holiday season! We thank you for your continued partnership this year and can't wait to see you in 2023!

Help us welcome our new team member, Thao!

We would like to introduce you to the newest member of our HIPMC team! Thao is the new HIPMC Program Coordinator and has been working closely with the team to support coalition work. We met with Thao to ask her a couple questions to give you a better understanding of what she does.

What are you responsible for in your role?

Broadly, I help support the Office of Community Empowerment to plan, develop, implement, lead, and evaluate the work of the Health Improvement Partnership of Maricopa County (HIPMC) through community engagement, partnership collaborations, community health needs assessments, workgroup projects, and other community outreach opportunities.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?

Realizing how lucky I am every day to be a part of the teams I work with, having the learning opportunities and mentors who excel at guiding and supporting me, and getting the chance to give back to the communities that I grew up in. I look forward to those moments of realization every day. 🙂

What would your slogan be if you were a brand?

My catchphrase would be 'Let's go!', both hypothetically, and in real life.

What's the best gift you've ever received?

Every home-cooked meal made by my mom, whether it’s every day or every few weeks. She likes cooking from scratch (like, "from-her-garden" scratch), so I am beyond lucky.
