Dear ASCLD Colleagues,
As of last week, the current ASCLD Board of Directors has been serving our membership for one year! We will transition to a new board at our Annual Business Meeting on Thursday, August 26th, 2021, in-person in Boston.
The MRC is working on pulling together information and resources on employee wellness from forensic science service providers. Please take a moment to take this brief survey:
Some of our members participated in a study supported by the NIJ about traumatic stress and burnout. The study was officially published this month:
Levin AP, Putney H, Crimmins D, McGrath JG. Secondary traumatic stress, burnout, compassion satisfaction, and perceived organizational trauma readiness in forensic science professionals. J Forensic Sci. 2021;00:1–12. https://doi.org/10.1111/1556-4029.14747
Have a terrific week!
Be well,
Erin

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has published DNA Mixture Interpretation: A Scientific Foundation Review. This draft report, which will be open for public comment for 60 days before being published in final form, reviews the methods that forensic laboratories use to interpret evidence containing a mixture of DNA from two or more people. The review has found that there is not enough publicly available data to independently assess the reliability of these methods.
