Arts Council Greater Lansing announces a call to teachers for their "Support Young Creatives Billboard Project." Teachers are invited to submit one piece of work by a student artist attending school in the Greater Lansing Region for the chance of having their art displayed on a digital billboard, during Youth Art Month in March 2021. Due to challenges with students being out of school at this time, the application deadline has been extended to Feb. 17, 2021, to better accommodate teachers. Learn more.
Downtown Lansing Inc. invites artists to participate in an alley transformation project, to create a more vibrant and inviting community space in the heart of the downtown district. Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center announces a call to youth artists for their "Ingham Student Art Exhibit." Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center, Ingham Intermediate School District and the Michigan Education Leadership Group host this celebration of excellence in the visual arts for young people in grades K-12+. MICHIGAN CALLS
Fiat Chrysler (FCA), City Walls Detroit and the Office of Arts, Culture and Entrepreneurship are seeking an artist or collaborative team for a creative place-keeping project in and around Southeastern High School and Detroit Enterprise Academy. It will be one of the largest municipal mural installations in city history. This two-year initiative will enhance the neighborhoods around the Jefferson auto plant and find ways to increase public art, youth engagement and workforce development. The theme for the mural installation will be the result of engagement with the neighbors in the Beniteau and Lillibridge neighborhoods and the students at the schools. Adrian Center for the Arts invites artists from Michigan, Ohio and Indiana to submit entries for the upcoming juried exhibition: "Celestial Bodies." Artists working in any medium or combination of media may submit original work which depicts the universe (or aspects of the universe) in creative, unique and individual fashion. This exhibition will be held at the Adrian Center for the Arts gallery in Adrian, Michigan, from April 12-May 21. Accepted artists will be expected to deliver the artwork for the exhibition to the ACA gallery from April 2-April 7. Application deadline is Feb. 12, 2021. Learn more.
The Crooked Tree Arts Center in Traverse City, Michigan, seeks artists for the national plein air painting festival, "Paint Grand Traverse: a plein air affair," now in its fourth year. This plein air (outdoor) painting festival and competition features 30-40 artists from across the country. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and changing public health situation, they have a "Plan A" (six days long, with outdoor/indoor gatherings, housing provided in host homes) and a "Plan B" (four days long, socially distanced, housing NOT provided). Chosen plan will be announced on June 1, 2021. Artists who are willing and able to do both Plan A and Plan B are encouraged to apply. Application deadline is Feb. 26, 2021. Learn more.
Art Rapids! is seeking artist applications for original sculptures of a size, weight and material suited to an outdoor park setting. The sculptures will be exhibited at the Elk Rapids Day Park, located in Elk Rapids, Michigan. Selected works will demonstrate the intimate connections between art, place and the natural environment. Artists can submit 3-6 representative digital images, sketches or a scale maquette of their proposed sculpture. Digital images must be in jpeg format and submitted on a CD or by email. NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL CALLS
The Allied Arts Council and the City of Saint Joseph, Missouri, seek sculptures for a temporary exhibition in Downtown Saint Joseph, June 11, 2021-May 15, 2022. Selected sculptures/sculptors will receive a $750 honorarium and all sculptures selected will compete for up to $13,000 in cash prize awards. The Council invites regional, national and international sculpture artists to submit work for this one-year sculpture exhibition. Application deadline is Feb. 8, 2021. Learn more.
Manifest gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio, invites visual artists to submit works that are either representations of, feature prominently or are made primarily of metal. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual, abstract or experimental of any media. Manifest is interested in how artists elevate, observe, depict and characterize metal in the art of today. Application deadline is Feb. 12, 2021. Learn more.
The Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, Missouri seeks entries for Watercolor USA 2021, held June 5-Aug. 29, 2021. Cash awards for $3,000, $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000, possible Museum Purchase Awards and artist materials packages will be given. Juror is Nick Nelson, director, Springfield Art Museum.
