NAMES CHANDLER GROOMS AS TOURISM DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Tourism in Pike County is under new leadership. The Pike County Chamber of Commerce is serving as the official tourism and community marketing organization for the county.

Shirley Bandy, Executive Director of the Chamber, is looking forward to this new opportunity for Pike County. “We really believe tourism can play an important role in the economics of our area, says Bandy. We want to promote the local attractions, area music, arts and history and showcase the beauty and natural surroundings of Southern Ohio, and in turn, bring more visitors to Pike County. It’s our goal to create new headlines with good stories to share!”.......

NEW RESTAURANT OPENING SOON IN BEAVER
Sully’s in the Valley

Pike County received a true Irish Blessing on St. Patrick’s Day! Elected officials, business leaders and the community celebrated the start of a new venture at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Sully’s in the Valley! The restaurant located on Beaver Pike, owned by Sully’s LLC, (Steve Adams, Josh Adams, and Eric Sullivan) is planning a June 2022 Grand Opening.
Adena Adds Three New Providers

Adena Health System is expanding its care for patients with the addition of three health care providers, across multiple service lines. These incoming advanced practice providers and physician are delivering even more options for comprehensive, close-to-home care for patients throughout the region.

Mario Matos-Cruz, MD joins Adena Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons seeing patients in Chillicothe. A board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Matos-Cruz earned his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He completed his residencies at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and Carolinas HealthCare System Heart Institute in Charlotte, NC and fellowships at Emory University Division in Atlanta, GA and Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia PA.
 
Herbert "Lee" Penix, Certified Nurse Practitioner is welcomed to the growing team of providers Adena Family Medicine – Washington Court House. With over 15 years of health care experience, Penix has been with Adena since 2018 caring for patients at Adena Regional Medical Center. He earned his Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Kentucky Christian University.
 
Michelle Woodyard, Certified Nurse Practitioner is accepting new patients at Adena Family Medicine – Hillsboro. Woodyard’s years of clinical experience include caring for patients throughout southern Ohio. She earned her Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Ohio University.

AAA7 and Shawnee State University
OT Program to Present “Fall-Free Fridays”

The Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7) and the Shawnee State University Occupational Therapy (OT) Program are once again joining together to provide falls prevention education to the community through a Facebook livestream series, “Fall-Free Fridays.”

Historically, the two organizations have worked together to provide falls prevention education to the community through the AAA7’s “Matter of Balance” falls prevention program. During the pandemic, a virtual version of the education was created through the Fall-Free Fridays platform to give students the opportunity to meet their class requirement to provide community education.

AAA7 Recruiting Farmers to Participate in
Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides eligible older adults with $50 in coupons each growing season to use at participating farmers’ markets and roadside stands to purchase produce. It is a federally-funded program administered by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services Agency and in Ohio, by the Ohio Department of Aging (ODA). ODA provides additional state funds to support SFMNP operation within Ohio.

2021 FREE TAX RETURN
PREPARATION AND FILING        
The Workforce & Business Development Program at the Community Action Committee of Pike County located at 941 Market Street in Piketon is providing the Free Tax Preparation Program by filing current and past years’ federal and state tax returns FREE OF CHARGE for low to moderate income taxpayers. Our Volunteer staff are certified by the IRS to prepare and complete tax returns. 
 
Tax Envelopes and required forms are available in the mailbox outside the OMJ Career Center windows, along with a checklist of documents needed to properly prepare tax returns.  It is IMPORTANT that you provide a good working contact number for the tax staff to reach you. Once your documents have been accepted by our staff, contact will be conducted via telephone as needed.  Call 740.289.2371 for more information. 
 
Income Tax Returns can be dropped off at the OhioMeansJobs Career Center Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 4:30pm.
