How long have you been a member of CHHA and what network are you a member of?
I have been a member of CHHA-National since September of 2017, as well as the Young Adults Network (YAN).
What motivated you to join CHHA?
Initially, it was to connect with a community that shared similar experiences growing up with a hearing loss. In terms of joining the Board of Directors of YAN, it was (and continues to) about raising awareness, removing the stigmas and its impact on young adults, and bringing my business-oriented background and experience to the table in a volunteer capacity.
What’s your current position and how long have you been in this position?
I am currently serving as Treasurer for the Young Adults Network in my first term and have been in this role since June of 2019.
What is your favourite part about volunteering?
It is connecting with the Hard of Hearing community and collaborating with my fellow board members to raise awareness, create resources and albeit challenging, support these initiatives’ through fundraising efforts.
In what capacity do you currently volunteer for your network?
As Treasurer, I am tasked with overseeing the fundraising efforts of our Network, whether it is through our annual fundraiser Hear2Lead, sponsorship opportunities with community partners and manufacturers’ or government grants.
What is your vision for CHHA?
My vision for CHHA is to continue being the leaders in raising awareness and providing valuable resources for us Canadians with hearing loss and the public while ensuring sustainability for years to come.
What would you like to see the organization achieve in one year? Three years?
As Treasurer for YAN, I would like to bring financial stability and create recurring revenue opportunities to support current and future projects that support young adults with hearing loss.
Do you have a message you wish to share with the membership?
It has been a rewarding experience connecting and collaborating with many of our members throughout the CHHA Network on projects. I hope to continue making positive changes that benefit you, our valued members.
CHHA is indeed fortunate to have someone as dedicated as Keegan to be part of our ranks. Thank you for all you do!
