Launch of Million Girls Moonshot Boosts STEM Learning
for Girls Across the Country
|
|
After a long-anticipated countdown, the Million Girls Moonshot officially launched last week. Established by the STEM Next Opportunity Fund, the effort will engage one million school-age girls in the U.S. in STEM learning opportunities over the next five years and will provide grant funding and resources to the statewide afterschool networks to increase access to hands-on, immersive STEM learning experiences in afterschool and summer programs.
The Indiana Afterschool Network is proud to continue our support of this effort. Click here to see the list of STEM-related resources that we collected and released earlier this month.

House Passes 21st CCLC COVID Relief Act
Last week, the House of Representatives unanimously approved HR 8162, the bipartisan 21st Century Community Learning Centers Coronavirus Relief Act of 2020.
The legislation provides much needed flexibility for the current 2020-2021 school year, allowing local afterschool programs funded by the Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC program to help parents return to the workforce and help children continue their learning in an academically supportive environment, including the hours when schools are operating virtually and not offering classes in-person.

Indiana Youth Institute has announced an opportunity for youth-serving nonprofit organizations in East Central Indiana to boost their impact. With funding provided by the Ball Brothers Foundation, we invite youth-serving organizations to apply for assistance to improve their current effectiveness and their capacity to serve in the future. Grantees are limited to organizations within the following counties: Delaware, Randolph, Henry, Jay, Madison, Grant, and Blackford counties. Two grants will be awarded.
Indiana school districts now have an opportunity to provide all of their Elementary through High schools a robotics team by applying for a Robotics Start-Up Grant through TechPoint Foundation for Youth’s (TPF4Y) State Robotics Initiative. Robotics training will be available to all awarded educators and will include training and information on VEX robotics kits, competition logistics, expectations for robotics educators and how educators can integrate Project Lead the Way activities (for elementary only) into the classroom with the new robotics kit. Recipients of the grant will be expected to assemble a robotics team at their school and attend at least one robotics competition during the school year.
