News and Updates
COVID-19 Emergency Financial Aid for Students

ALL international students are NOW eligible for COVID relief funds if they are registered for the Summer semester. Wright State University will have a fall application once the semester begins.
A Renewed U.S. Commitment to International Education

The U.S. Government calling for a unified national approach to international education, saying it is time for a “renewed U.S. commitment” to American higher education and its global connections. They want the U.S. to continue to lead the world and remain the destination of choice for talented international students, researchers, scholars, and educators.
Dependent Health Insurance

Starting from fall 2021, Wright State University will no longer be offering dependent health insurance coverage under the student health insurance plan. This step was taken to lower the cost of the health plan for students seeking affordable health care options.

The current coverage of student's dependent will be active through August 22, 2021.

While the traditional golf cart brigade is not possible, WSU will still welcome new residential students to the Dayton Campus with a full schedule of traditional and new activities during Operation Move-In on Aug. 18–21.

Wright State kicks off First Weekend activities on Aug. 20, which are designed to acclimate first-year and transfer students to campus and get acquainted with each other before the Fall Semester begins on Aug. 23.
Raider Food Pantry Donations

As Raider Food Pantry prepares for the Fall Semester, donations can be made by bringing food and personal care items to the pantry at Student Union 051, or by purchasing items from their Amazon Wish List, or by making a monetary donation to their Foundation Account. For perspective, they ran out of peanut butter altogether, and only have 11 boxes of Macaroni and cheese because utilization continues to increase from continued impacts of the pandemic.

  2. Click on the 'WINGS Express' icon in the top righthand corner
  3. Select the 'Personal Information' tab

  5. Enter your up-to-date phone number, and click 'Submit'
  6. While there, check that your current home address is correct

Fraudulent callers are claiming to be SEVP representatives and asking students to provide their immigration information, such as their Alien Registration Number or Form I-94, “Arrival/Departure Record,” information, or face deportation.

Please report the incident to the HSI tip line or at askucie@wright.edu.

How can I apply for an OPT I-20 and where can I obtain it since the UCIE office is closed?
Although the campus is temporarily closed, OPT applications are still being processed daily. Please scan and email the application with department approval to fei.yu@wright.edu. After it is processed, we will mail the I-20 to you.

Maintaining status on OPT is still the same as usual
You are permitted only 90 days of unemployment between the start and end dates on your EAD card. In addition, you are required to report the following information through the SEVP Portal while on OPT within 10 days from the change:

1. When you start a new job.
2. When you change addresses.
3. Periods of unemployment.
4. 6-month validation (You can email fei.yu@wright.edu after you update your employment information and residential address through SEVP Portal)

Can I travel back to my home country during OPT period?
Please be aware that if you are unemployed for more than 90 days, you will lose your OPT status. Also, during this uncertain time, we do not suggest international travel as there is no guarantee of open borders.

Ultraviolet (UV) Radiation
