You would think after last year, I’d be used to having to reschedule events, but alas… I was still a little disappointed we had to cancel the golf tournament. Luckily, we were able to reschedule, and it will be here before we know it. Despite the rainy May we’ve had, I don’t see that being much of an issue for the next 3–4 months, so hopefully, we’ll be ok! Make sure you’ve marked the new date and time for the tournament on your calendar, and we’ll see you on June 17th!
As many of you know, May is Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge this year feels a bit different, as our country grapples with an alarming increase of violence perpetrated against the AAPI community. From weaving the very fabric of our country together through the transcontinental railroad to the recent landing of the Perseverance Rover on Mars, there is no way to even discuss transportation in this country without acknowledging the contributions of the AAPI Community. Once again, I’m here to remind everyone that WTS is an organization rooted in inclusion, equity, and the steadfast belief that everyone, regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion, has value and a place at our table.
We have an action-packed Spring/Summer coming up, including the continuation of our Diversity Conversations which will have a particular focus on the AAPI experience. We’ve lined up a fantastic panel, so keep an eye out for more information on that program in July. Additionally, be on the lookout for our (rescheduled) joint event with COMTO on the High-Speed Rail project, also slated for July.
Once again, I hope to see you at Texas Star for our rescheduled golf tournament. I’ve had more time to practice, so don’t be surprised when our all-WTS Member team takes the trophy. In the meantime, stay safe, wash your hands, and as always, thank you for everything you do.
Sincerely,
