Chili Cook-Off benefiting Race for Hope DC

CREBA member Adrian Conforti leads Cushman & Wakefield's Project & Development Services (PDS) team in the Mid-Atlantic market and will be hosting its fifth annual chili cook-off on October 20th from Noon to 4:00pm at the Wunder Garten (1101 First Street NE). Last year's event raised $59,100 for brain tumor research with twenty-six teams participating and over 450 attendees. You can help them reach this year's $75,000 goal by donating through this link. The event proceeds go to Race for Hope-DC, a 5K run fundraiser supporting brain tumor research. Legacy Cassidy Turley became involved in the organization in 2000 after co-founder, Pat Cassidy, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Race for Hope has raised over $29 million, making it the largest fundraiser for brain tumor research in the country. At the chili cook-off, awards are granted to winners in categories including: People's Choice, Most Original, Most Team Spirit, Most Unique, and Judge's Choice. The People's Choice winner last year was Vantage Construction. This is a family friendly event with a band, Oktoberfest beers, arts and crafts for the kids, and of course, complimentary chili tastings. Click here for more information and to participate.

The Lilabean Foundation for Pediatric Brain Cancer Research

11 children are diagnosed with a brain tumor every day and less than 4% of all funds raised by the National Cancer Institute are applied to childhood cancer research. These statistics hit home for JBG SMITH's Gary Cook when he got to know his daughter's friend, Lila, who is living with an inoperable, Grade 2 astrocytoma. Gary serves on the Board of the Foundation founded in Lila's honor, The Lilabean Foundation for Pediatric Brain Cancer Research (LBF). Over the last six years, the Foundation has donated over $800,000 to The Brain Tumor Institute at Children's National Medical Center. Some of the first fundraisers were held in Gary's backyard! On November 3rd, the Foundation will hold its annual Fall Ball auction and fundraiser. Click here to donate an item or purchase a ticket. Or you can honor the 11 children who are diagnosed every day by becoming an 11for11 supporter through the LBF website.

Children's National Hospital Foundation

CBRE's  Maxi Leachman has two brothers completing surgical residency and a sister-in-law who is a nurse practitioner at Children's National Medical Center in DC. Watching them commit themselves to the health and survival of others every day inspired Maxi to join the Children's National Corporate Advisory Council  to help provide doctors and nurses with the resources they need to give patients the medical and personal care they deserve.  In her role, Maxi will be working with the Children's Hospital Foundation to help raise money to cover these gaps and fund research, equipment and facilities including art rooms, gardens and other spaces so important to a child's growth and development while in treatment.

There are lots of ways you can help these kids and Children's National. Donate and/or join Maxi and the CBRE team at the Race for Every Child, a 5K Run/Walk coming up on October 20th. Your business can participate in "Make March Matter" marketing and fundraising campaign. The Foundation's signature event, Children's Ball, will be held in April. Click here for more information about Children's National.
