Dear Families,

Summer is officially over in a few days. The first day of autumn is next Monday.  We look forward to cooler days and nights, fall leaves and all things pumpkin. We have been blessed with being able to spend lots of time outside with our students.  Please pray that we have good weather to continue this.

This year we look to Mother Terersa for inspiration with our students. We look specifically at two of her quotes to guide us. "The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread and If you can't feed a hundred people, feed just one." In the past, every month we have worked with a charitable organization to offer assistance. Over the years we have collected for various projects, everything from baby items to books.  This year where there is so much need for people to be fed we are concentrating on the simple need of food. Food for the soul and food for the belly. Each month we will let you know what our collection will be and what class will be spearheading this.  We are already in contact with organizations that are so grateful for our help.

Just a reminder that the school parking lot/playground is closed from 8:00a.m. to 2:35 p.m. Students are having phy. ed and recess.  Please do not drive or remove the ropes.  Please share this information with people who pick up your children.  If you need to pick up your child early, park on the church side.

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has many resources available to you. They have created a new series of videos entitled "See You at Mass". Please take a moment to watch the first one. They are personal testimonies on the joys and necessities of attending Mass in person.

Did you know that the Archdiocese of Milwaukee has its own newspaper? Many times there have been articles or pictures of our students featured.   Please check out the Catholic Herald  here.

Archbishop Listecki writes an article each week called "Love One Another." Click  here to read  it.

If you have anything I can help you with, please give me a call.

Faithfully,

Mary Tretow

Office Procedures
If you are dropping something off for your child, please make sure that it is labeled with a first and last name.  It should go into the school drop off container in front of the school entrance.

Here comes the Bus App
If your child/children ride the bus, then this app is for you.  It will allow you to view the real-time location of your child/children's school bus on your phone.  Please click here for information on how to get the app. If you need your child's student ID please email me at [email protected]

SMV Band
As part of our SMV Comeback Plan, based on advice from our local health department and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, the band program will be temporarily on hold for the fall. Mrs. Kesler will be in contact with families about the continuation of the program later in the trimester. If you are still interested in renting a band instrument for practice at home, please contact Mrs. Kesler at [email protected] for information. We are looking forward to having band back at SMV later this year - stay tuned for more updates!

Wipes
If you are shopping and you see bleach free disinfected wipes, SMV could use a few for cleaning our electronic devices. Thank you!!

Safeguarding all God's Family
In order to volunteer at SMV (this includes playground duty) please make sure that you have completed the safeguarding class offered by the Milwaukee Archdiocese.  Many of you have completed the session and had a background check done years ago.  Did you know that the background checks expires after 5 years?  Please click here to renew your background check.

SMV's PRIMARY FALL FUNDRAISER
We are excited to announce that SMV's primary fall fundraiser will be the Soles Walk! SMV's Goal is to raise $15, 000 to support SMV Home & School. 100% of all donations stay at SMV & benefit your children and their classrooms!  While the traditional Soles For Catholic Education Walk will be virtual this year, SMV will have its own fun-filled, Children's Only walk during the school day on October 16th. An informational packet with more details will come home with your child next week. Be on the look out for a Blue & Gold Gladiator Soles Shoe (5 Lucky Families will find one in their packet)! Turn it into your child's teacher for a prize!
Questions? Contact Andrea Stollenwerk & MIchelle Akel at

SHOE DONATION DRIVE
As part of our participation in the Soles for Catholic Education Walk, SMV will be collecting shoes for distribution to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Shoes will go to people who need shoes for interviews, work, school and everyday use. Time to clean out the closets and send new or gently used shoes to school with your children from now through October 17th !

Shop for a Cause
JCrew Factory "Shop and Share" School Fundraiser event is NOW! Get ready to shop til you drop, refresh the fall wardrobe and give back to St. Mary's Visitation all at the same time! JCrew Factory at the Mayfair Collection has once again teamed up with SMV for a 2 week shopping event! The event will kick off on Sunday, September 13th and will run through Saturday, September 26th. During that time, stop into the store and when you check out present the flyer that will come home in your child's folder, or mention SMV and part of your transaction will go straight back to our school! In addition, you will receive 20% off of your purchase of $100 or more!

SCRIP
SCRIP is Home and School's year-long fundraiser with the added bonus of also being a tuition rebate program.  With SCRIP you can fundraise while you do your regular shopping and earn $$ towards your tuition all at the same time.

Check out SCRIP's website, shopwithscrip.com, to see all the retailers and rebate percentages offered.  You'll be surprised at how many rebates are higher than most credit card percentages which make it worthwhile to change a few habits and pay via SCRIP vs your credit card.  80% of your rebates earned can be applied to next year's tuition balance.

How do I buy SCRIP????  Place your orders for any physical cards online by 8am Monday and they will be delivered via backpacks Thursdays of full school weeks.  Many retailers are available as e-cards (SCRIP Now) to make online shopping easy.  Many cards are also reloadable, no need to wait for a weekly order to replenish your balance.  Family members/Friends near and far can also purchase SCRIP and have their rebates applied to your family's tuition bill.

Check out SCRIP's MOBILE APP:  RAISERIGHT
Ordering e-cards, checking their balances and using them online or for in-store purchases is easy with SCRIP's mobile app.

Remember: The more you use the more you save!  Many families earn $100s off their tuition bill each year while also supporting Home and School programs like providing gift cards to our teachers at Christmas and Teacher Appreciation week.  It's a win/win.

Parish News

Dear SMV School Families,

I'm reaching out to you today, hoping that you can help me out with something. We have a parishioner who is really struggling and is expecting a baby boy in November. She is in need of a used crib, car seat and stroller in addition to gently used clothing and other items for a newborn. The used baby gear must meet current US Consumer Product Safety Commission's standards. Our school and parish families are always so generous to those in need. This is a great way to pass along the things that you loved for your own children to someone who could really use the help right now.

If you have anything you'd like to pass along, please contact Kris Dries to make arrangements to drop things off at school. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart! Leave it to SMV to bring alive our mission statement by, "promoting goodness in this world, following the example of our Blessed Mother, our Lady of the Visitation, by serving the needs of others."

Gratefully,

Mary Sue Protz
