Black Women in U.S. Finance Before the New Deal." Dr. Garrette-Scott is also a professor whose research focuses on race, gender, and capitalism. She is featured in the PBS documentary "Boss: The Black Experience in Business."

There is a growing collection of books on Juneteenth, aka June 19, 1865 thanks in part to celebrations catching a fire around the world. Formerly known as “Jubilee” day or “Emancipation” Day, celebrations were initiated in Texas and have traveled all the way to Ghana! Carving out another day to be in celebration of cultural traditions is good cause to pause, review, and continue to expand on what we have.

Black Wall Street Remembered

New Product from Tulsa, OK

Afriware Books, Co is honored to add new bookmarks to our inventory from TheSeasonalPages.com, a Black owned bookmark manufacturer located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tulsa, Oklahoma holds a special place in our hearts because it was one of several cities in the US known as Black Wall Street, with a high concentration of Black-owned businesses prior to the race massacre in 1921. They have high quality bookmarks some of which are made from actual wood that are eco-friendly and biodegradable. Each woodmark-bookmark is unique and displays images of Black men and women reading. We are rolling out some of their bookmarks that make great gifts for Father's Day.

May 31, 2021 marked the one hundred year anniversary of the biggest race riot-massacre in America's history. Though attempts were made to remove all mention from newspapers of this atrocity, a new book was just released (5/25/2021) with eye-witness accounts that detail the devastation called, "The Nation Must Awake," by Mary E. Jones Parrish. The oldest living survivor of the massacre gave a testimony to a U.S. House Committee recently on this 5 minute Youtube video, Ms Viola Fletcher, who is now 107 said in part, "for seventy years the city of Tulsa and its Chamber of Commerce told us the massacre didn't happen; like we didn't see it with our own eyes."
