Last Thursday, iLGBTS Staff met at Reid Park to try out Sin Sol / No Sun, an interactive gameplay app designed by our 2020 Miranda Joseph Endowed Lecture invited speaker, micha cárdenas!
With a beautiful Tucson sunset as a backdrop, the team were instantly captivated by the powerful images and poetry featured in Sin Sol / No Sun---all while social distancing!
Sin Sol / No Sun is available via Apple App Store and represents a poignant, relevant, and health guideline-friendly opportunity to learn! Gameplay is recommended for outdoors, but can be engaged in any large, open space!

About the game: Sin Sol / No Sun is an augmented reality game that allows users to experience the feelings [of] a climate change event, in order to deeply consider how climate change disproportionately effects immigrants, trans people and disabled people.

Players can find, see and hear a story told through poetry about living through climate change induced wildfires, from a trans Latinx AI hologram, Aura. With the goal of multispecies survival and solidarity in mind, Aura's dog, Roja, leads players on a journey to escape the wildfires and find oxygen capsules which contain poetry, telling more of the story as they progress through the game. Make & Learn on Wednesdays with Movement/Rest Quilting Bee!

The Movement/Rest Quilting Bee is a bi-weekly opportunity open to all Tucson and University of Arizona community members to come together to make and learn in the midst of COVID-19 and white supremacy, two of the concurrent and intersecting crises of 2020. #MoveRestBee is inspired by the beautiful and loving work of #BlackLivesMatter & #M4BL.It is a virtual space and a hands-on public quilt project designed to nourish creativity, resistance, activism, joy, rest and care. This program is co-sponsored by CATalyst Studios and the Public History Collaborative.
All registered attendees will have the option to attend as many of the bi-weekly workshops as they would like and will each get a free kit with the basic supplies needed to create a unique square for the public quilt. Workshops will include short lessons on basic techniques related to quilting, as well as presentations by artists, activists, and "craftivists" from Tucson and beyond. Invited speakers will share inspiring projects and talk about their work as it relates to social justice, public history or art, and documentation - placing quilting in social and cultural contexts and radical traditions. Attendees may use the remainder of the workshop time to discuss their quilt squares, ask questions, and get help from workshop facilitators.

"A huge part of serving the birth community is having an understanding of who birthing people are. How do they identify? What are some of their lived experiences and unique needs?
Let's talk about the diverse birthing people who are building their families & various family structures that you may encounter so that you can offer sensitive care.
HINT: Not all pregnant people are women. (Yup, it's true.) And yah, we're going to expand your understanding of diverse families beyond two lesbian parents." - king yaa
About the Facilitator:
king yaa (pronouns: they/them/king!) is a black, genderqueer, queer, masculine of centre being who has birthed three humans. They are a Jamaican, raised in Toronto, Canada and currently occupy space in Cape Town, South Africa. Their work is grounded in and informed by intersectional feminism, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed care, body liberation and sex positive frameworks. king yaa centres their work on the intersections of queer wellness and dignity. Their offerings include gender affirming bodywork, somatic coaching, movement for resiliency, full spectrum birth support, transitioning companion and as well as training intentional health and wellness providers with LGBTQ+ competencies, specializing on queer, trans and non-binary individuals, to create safe and inclusive practices.

This project is inclusive to all levels of creativity and skill. Do not feel intimidated, it's going to be playful.
