Last Wednesday was Pearl Harbor Day. We welcomed Alan Bliss from the Jacksonville Historical Society, who gave us a presentation on the days leading up to December 7,1941, the attack, and the aftermath of the attack. Contrary to what we have always been told, the U.S. wasn’t entirely unprepared. Live ammo was dispersed, and gun crews were put on regular standby rotations. This was noted by the Japanese on just how quickly a response to the attack was. Two key targets were left unscathed. The fuel reserves supplied the entire Pacific fleet and the dry docks, which allowed the damaged vessels to get repaired in a timely manner. |
