Habitat Cape Cod news & updates
June 2021
Are you a morning person? Cheerful? Like working with people?
Registration volunteers are needed to welcome our construction folks on the Murray Lane, Harwich build site in the morning, get them signed in for the day, and make them feel comfortable. You would need to be on site from 7:15AM to about 9AM. It could be just once or twice a month, or every Saturday or Tuesday. There is some organization of materials required after the sign-in process. And we ask our Registration Volunteers to set up a food table and put the coffee on.
Please email tara@habitatcapecod.org if interested!

We have 2 Restore Locations in Falmouth (805 Gifford Street Extension) and Yarmouth (28 Whites Path) where we sell new and used home goods. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram. Business is booming and now is the time to pick up some unique items for your home! Our talented staff and volunteers even repurpose some of the items to make them one of kind pieces. You never know what we will have, so stop by frequently!

Are you in a Position to Donate Items to Our ReStores? Habitat accepts and will pick up donations of used cabinets, appliances and furniture, good to excellent condition. Proceeds from sales help build more affordable homes on Cape Cod! Click here for more info!

Town News
Sandwich. Cotuit Road and Nauset Street. Our scatter site project was approved by the Sandwich ZBA at its April 27th meeting. We certainly appreciate the community support we received.  There will be a total of three homes built, two at Cotuit Road and one at Nauset Street.  If all goes well, we hope to raise walls on these homes in late summer, 2022.

Chatham. George Ryder Road South. We closed the transfer of the land from the Town of Chatham to Habitat in March. And we plan to begin infrastructure work on this project in late fall 2021, with a two-home wall raising in 2022.

Brewster. 26 Red Top Road. We have had our site meeting with DHCD (Department of Housing & Community Development) and hope to receive our Project Eligibility letter soon. Following its receipt, we will make application of this 40B project to Brewster ZBA. If all goes well, we are looking forward to a 2023 wall raising of two homes on this site.

Harwich. Murray Lane.  The six foundations and septic systems are in, foundations are being capped, and we are making final preparations in anticipation of wall raisings. We expect to raise walls at the site in late June or July.

Falmouth. Willett Way.  The foundations and septic systems are in for the first six homes, and we are making final preparations for wall raisings which are planned for August (6 homes) and phase 2 in May 2022 (4 homes.)

We continue our assessment of a number of sites in towns across the Cape. We are always on the lookout for suitable sites for Habitat homes. If you would like to consider the donation of a parcel of property, or know of a town owned site that might be suitable, please contact Beth Wade, Director of Land Acquisition & Project Development, at land@habitatcapecod.org or 508-362-3559 x24.  Thank you!

Consider a LEGACY GIFT to Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod. You can help us do what we do today, even better, for generations to come. A planned gift is simple to arrange
and often returns benefits back to you.

For example, you can:

• Make a gift today that costs you nothing during your lifetime
• Receive guaranteed payments for life in return for your gift
• Donate life insurance you no longer need
• Give appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds
• Preserve your estate for your heirs and support a cause you care about
• Use a gift to reduce your estate tax exposure and eliminate capital gains
• Donate your house or vacation property, take a tax
deduction and continue to use the property for as long as you’d like

We believe deeply in the mission of HHCC — and we have abiding confidence in the exceptional staff. We want to leave a bit of our heritage to several lasting causes, and it has simply made sense to include HHCC. This chapter does remarkable and lasting good here on the Cape, meeting a need which surely will continue long into the foreseeable future. Lives have been, and will continue to be, profoundly changed for the better and in a long-lasting way — simply by the provision of safe, affordable, stable, and eco-friendly housing. - Dr. Rob and Bev Park
