Recreational Soccer off to a Great Start
Our Recreational soccer program started the season on September 7th! Our zoom meetings led by Director of Coaching, Trip Ellis, provided coaching insight and expectations for our volunteer coaches. They are doing a great job educating our teams and families about the game of soccer and following safety protocols. We are excited for the first recreational games this Saturday, September 19th!

We are still looking for players U13 and up to referee our recreational soccer teams that are U5-U8. If you are interested, please contact Patrick Peach at patrick.fcrichmond@gmail.com
Staff Spotlight
FC Richmond has an outstanding staff and we would like to highlight them! This month we are featuring coach Forsan Radwan.

Forsan first started playing soccer when he was 7 years old, due to his father’s influence. “We used to watch the World Cup on TV, and then play around the house and outside in the park. I used to want to be a goalkeeper,” Forsan explained.

He joined Magic when he was in high school. He continued to play at FC Richmond for three seasons. “Playing for FC Richmond helped me become more confident, taught me to set goals, and work hard to achieve them. Being part of FC Richmond has always meant a great deal of pride for me,” Forsan shared. He went on to play soccer at VCU and then received a full athletic scholarship to play soccer at Queens University.

When asked about his most impactful soccer experience, he said, “Scoring my first goal for VCU as a freshman in my first official game as a college athlete. It was a special moment because it was a game winning goal and it felt like everything that I worked hard for over the past 3 years paid off”.

Forsan enjoys all aspects of coaching youth soccer. He likes the challenge of helping players grow and achieve their goals, as well as guiding the teams to pursue championships. Forsan has a United States Soccer Federation National B license. He is currently coaching U17 Magic Elite and U16 Mystx Elite teams, as well as the James River High School varsity boys team.

With such a busy coaching schedule, Forsan doesn’t have a lot of free time but when he does, he likes to watch professional soccer games on TV, and read.

He shared this advice for youth players, “I highly recommend two things. First, make time outside of the regular training schedule to work on improving individual ability by doing a lot of repetitions that you need but do not get to do enough of during team training (dribbling, passing, shooting, etc). Second, watch professional soccer matches on TV (La Liga, EPL, etc). Watching the best players in the world is the best demonstration any young player can ask for!”

We are grateful for Forsan’s commitment to FC Richmond and his passion for the game!
Benefits of Watching Soccer on TV
One of the best ways to learn about soccer is by watching professional games on TV. The more you watch and study games, the better understanding you will have of the game. Watching games helps you not only with tactics and positioning, but you can also become more passionate and inspired about the sport and the intensity that it takes to get to a higher level of playing. Challenge yourself and pick a team and/or a player you like, and follow them!
