Upcoming Lane Closure
July 18th thru July 30th
On SH 16 (Bandera Road) between Seneca and Grass Hill; this will be a right lane closure for approximately two weeks weather permitting or until work is completed. All driveways will be accessible for businesses in the affected areas. The lane closure is for sidewalk and drainage improvements.
😔🎬Movies in the Park have been cancelled due to the muddy conditions of the park because of the recent rain. The event will be rescheduled at a later date.
As students prepare to get back into the classroom and parents get back to in-person work, Walmart is helping everyone get back on track with the return of Walmart Wellness Day this Saturday, July 24.
 
More than 4,700 Walmart pharmacies nationwide will host Walmart Wellness Day events from 10 AM – 2 PM local time on July 24. Walmart Wellness Day events will feature the following health resources administered by our qualified pharmacy team:
 
  • Free health screenings, including glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index, and vision screenings (select locations) 
  • Educational health resources and consultations with our trusted pharmacy team 
  • Affordable immunizations, including measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), varicella (chickenpox), HPV, tetanus, whooping cough (TDAP), and more 
  • No-cost COVID-19 vaccines

Walmart pharmacies have been hosting Walmart Wellness Days since 2014 and have administered more than 4.75 million free health screenings for customers during that time. To find a free event in your neighborhood, visit Walmart.com/wellnesshub.

The Leon Valley Police Department vehicle impound online auction is scheduled for Monday, August 9, 2021, through August 16, 2021, at 9:00 a.m.

As the impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic continue to ripple across our nation, an escalating foreclosure crisis among FHA-insured borrowers is reaching a cataclysmic point impacting hundreds of thousands of borrowers. The Bexar County Office of Emergency Management has activated its heat relief operations to help mitigate the effects of already high temperatures in our area. Cooling centers for citizens of unincorporated Bexar County and the suburban cities are accessible at the below locations. These locations will be open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM until further notice. All of the cooling centers will operate even during potential power outages. Service animals in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act will be allowed access to the cooling centers as well. Bottled water and ice will also be available to those who stay at one of the locations listed below. VIA will transport citizens to the stop closest to one of the addresses noted.

HELP IS NEEDED TO RECEIVE A GRANT FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE HUEBNER CREEK HIKE AND BIKE TRAIL!
A grant for the second half of the Huebner Creek Hike & Bike Trail
(connecting the trail from Bandera Road to Rimkus Park) has been submitted by Public Works to the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO). Competition for these federal dollars is stiff – 80% from the federal government with a 20% local match for construction of the trail. Citizen input is instrumental in letting the policy board know how important this project is to our community.

White Tail Deer Fawning Season
Spring is the prime birthing season for a wide variety of wildlife, including deer. White-tailed Deer off-spring, known as fawns, are born April through July, with the majority of fawns born in May in our region. Most first-year does will deliver one fawn, but twins or triplets are typically seen every year thereafter. Leon Valley Public Library Open
The Leon Valley Public Library is now open at regular operating hours! 

Patrons no longer need to schedule appointments, and the doors will remain open during all operating hours. The hours are back to Sundays 2pm - 6pm; Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 10am - 6pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am - 8pm; Saturdays 10am - 2pm. We are super excited to see everyone back!
Siren Sound Clips
Monthly Siren Testing
The siren is tested on the first Wednesday of every month at noon, weather permitting.
The siren is not tested during potential bad weather to avoid confusion. During this test, the siren is sounded for approximately 1 minute. For more information on the flood warning system and the siren, contact Leon Valley Fire Department at (210) 684-3219.

THE EMERGENCY BROADBAND BENEFIT PROGRAM
The Emergency Broadband Benefit will provide a discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.
