Burning desire

Ken Burns of Walpole, NH, talks about his "handmade" style of documentary filmmaking in a revealing, in-depth interview. He talks about how he got started in filmmaking, dealing with fame, and his philosophy. "How do we share this sense of us—and not 'them'?... I make films about the U.S. What I've learned is that there's no 'them'...There is only us."

Strengthen Vermont right now.

That was Gov. Scott's message in his Jan. 5 inaugural address. He urged lawmakers to cut red tape that hinders growth and investments in local communities. "We must find a way to achieve our shared goals without adding taxes and fees," said Scott who is beginning his fourth two-year term.

Still No Word...?

Did you miss last week's author readings at JAM with new works by Brooklyn-based short story writer Sara Lippmann, illustrator and cartoonist Ricardo Siri , poet and Professor of Creative Writing Vievee Francis and Norwich-based author Peter Orner?
